THE COACHES

Ryan Day

Ryan Day

  • 11–0 (1.00) at Ohio State
  • 11–0 (1.00) overall

Day's hometown is Manchester, NH. He attended Manchester High School and attended college at New Hampshire. Day has been in coaching for 18 years and is Ohio State's 25th head coach.

After this season's first eight games, Ryan Day and the Buckeyes are outscoring their opponents 386-63. That is an average victory of 48-8. The numbers stay fairly steady when you add in the three games Day coached last season.

After nine games with Day as head coach, Ohio State is beating teams by an average score of 52-13. The only teams not to lose to Day by more than 40 points are Oregon State, TCU, Florida Atlantic and Wisconsin. He has the program record for points scored after his first nine games with 465.

Urban Meyer, Earle Bruce and Carroll Widdoes are the only other coaches in program history to start their careers with 11 straight victories. However, none of them won their games as convincingly as Day.

Mike Locksley

Mike Locksley

  • 4–11 (.267) at Maryland (2nd year)
  • 6–37 (.140) overall as a college head coach (5th year)
  • 2–10 (.167) against B1G opponents

As a child, Locksley lived in the inner-city of Washington D.C. He played safety and cornerback at Towson State and was named the Tigers' Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.

At the start of his coaching career, Locksley was an assistant for Towson state, Maryland, Florida and Illinois. He was on the Illini staff when they came to Columbus and upset the Buckeyes in 2007. In December of 2008, Locksley was named the head coach of New Mexico. The Lobos were 2-26 with him in control.

After being let go, Locksley returned to Maryland where he was named the interim head coach after Randy Edsall was fired the day after Ohio State beat the Terrapins in October of 2015. In March of 2016, Locksley was hired by Alabama as an offensive analyst and won a national championship with the Tide. He earned the Broyles Award after the 2018 season. In December of 2018, Locksley was named the 21st head coach of Maryland.
