Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins was named as one of 47 preseason nominees for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award on Tuesday.
The award, which recognizes a top player who was born in Texas, played at a Texas high school or plays at a Texas-based college, is entering its seventh year. Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett was a finalist for the award last year, when Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield won the award.
Dobbins, a native of La Grange, Texas, is coming off a spectacular true freshman season for Ohio State in which he rushed for 1,403 yards – breaking the Buckeyes' single-season freshman rushing record – and seven touchdowns on 194 attempts.
Dobbins has also been named to the watch lists for the Doak Walker Award, which honors college football's best running back, and the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award, which both honor college football's best player.
