The Zach Smith situation has reminded me of another OSU assistant coach who was charged with domestic violence. This probably is handled different today.

It was January 1999. Offensive coordinator Mike Jacobs was charged with assault and domestic violence on his ex-wife. The following morning, Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to arrest Jacobs. OSU placed Jacobs on administrative leave pending the outcome of his case. At his arraignment, his ex-wife had a visible bruise around her eye.

Jacobs would plead guilty to disorderly conduct charges. He would coach in the 1999 season. His contract was not renewed following that season. He had a stint at Oklahoma State and Mesa Community College after his time at Ohio State. Jacobs died in 2010.
