Meyer at the mike on July 24, 2018 sparked this powder keg. It should never have happened.

As Urban Meyer states, "My intention was not to say anything inaccurate or misleading. However, I was not adequately prepared..."

Why was the leader of a very public and very successful organization "not adequately prepared?" The answer: He was hung out to dry by his employer, the Ohio State University. Whether by intent or mistake, Ohio State FAILED to get in front of this story.

On July 24th, Ohio State's PR unit should have taken the podium and stated, "Coach Meyer is glad to answer your questions about the 2018 football season. Please refer any questions regarding Zach Smith to our attention."

Urban Meyer has been wrongfully targeted and the Ohio State University deserves the blame.

Others at the Ohio State University need to be on camera, on mike and on the record, answering for these abject failures of delegation, crisis management and public communication. I believe Meyer's paid absence (and this hastily-assembled investigative body) underwrite this and is a tacit admission by the Ohio State University that it knows it must be careful...because it knows it is the guilty party and its legal position is untenable. So...now...the Ohio State University is crisis managing, finally.

And Urban Meyer should be coaching, right now.
