This Situation Indicates a Complete Failure by the Athletic Department/General Counsel at Ohio State

This post is a bit long, but I have taken a step back to see what could have been done, and should have been done based on last week

Last Tuesday, Urban Meyer indicated he didn't know anything about a 2015 incident, and even said he had checked on it when he had heard about it and still didn't know anything.  Within an hour after this press conference, multiple OSU beat writers indicated that they knew about 2015, and asked the question how Meyer didn't know.

There were multiple failings here:

1. Meyer obviously should have known about 2015 if he didn't, and if he didn't know until the night before his presser, should have known everything (and been given all information) by the time the presser began

2. Once news got out that this was an issue, and twitter was already indicating that he should have known about 2015, the entire compliance department and counsel for OSU/OSU athletics, as well as Gene Smith, should have gotten to the bottom of this issue by Wednesday morning.

3. Wednesday or Thursday morning of last week, Meyer should have held a presser indicating that he had misspoken on Tuesday and that he had been made aware of 2015.  This would have given them two days to determine the best tactic, ON THEIR TERMS.

4. I firmly believe that if OSU made a proactive step last week relating to this, yesterday would have maybe just added a bit to it, but we would not be in this position today.

5. Once you give someone else the first bite at the apple, you lose your ability to control the situation.  We all know there is no direct evidence against Urban right now, but the circumstantial evidence was damning since the report that there was no direct evidence was lost in the shuffle.

The GC/Compliance/AD should take a real look in the mirror over the next week and realize that yes, Meyer misspoke (lied?), but it is their entire job to protect the OSU brand name, in athletics and otherwise, and there was a complete failure to do so over the past week
