Former Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier was in a wheelchair when he made a visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice facility on Saturday, according to a report from Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Since suffering a spinal cord injury during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 4 and undergoing spinal stabilization surgery two days later, Shazier has been recovering at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. It is not known whether Saturday was the first time he visited the Steelers' practice facility since his injury, but Saturday was the first time he was seen by Steelers reporters in a wheelchair, according to Fittipaldi.
While Shazier "has started physical rehabilitation as part of his recovery process," according to the last official update provided by UPMC, and his father Vernon told ESPN that his son has made "some improvement that is encouraging," details on whether Shazier has movement or feeling in his lower body or whether he is expected to make a full recovery have yet to be provided.
