What Would Ohio State Realistically Offer to WSU's DC Alex Grinch?

It just seems odd that Alex Grinch would choose to leave WSU where he is the sole DC being paid $600,000/year to come and be a co-DC at Ohio State unless he gets offered a pretty serious pay raise. On the other hand, Ohio State has never really broken the bank for assistant coaches. IIRC, Luke Fickell has been the highest paid asst. coach in Ohio State's history at $755,000/year last season and that was after 14 years of service/pay raises.

Currently, the coaching staff makes:

  1. Greg Schiano (DC/S) - $700K
  2. Kevin Wilson (OC/TE) - $650K
  3. Larry Johnson Sr. (DL) - $575K
  4. Bill Davis (LB) - $500K
  5. Kerry Coombs (ST/CB) - $500K
  6. Tony Alford (RB) - $450K
  7. Greg Studrawa (OL) - $400K
  8. Ryan Day (co-OC/QB) - $400K
  9. Zach Smith (WR) - $300K

So average P5 salaries for coordinators, but top dollar for positional coaches. I am guessing Urban does this by design to help retain his position coaches. Unfortunately though, it seems unlikely that Ohio State would offer Grinch more than $750-800K/year, which does not seem like enough to outbid Grinch's other suitors (Texas A&M or Arkansas). Hopefully, Grinch values moving back home significantly more than money.

Edit: The other 2 main schools rumored to be pushing for Grinch are Texas A&M and Arkansas. So for comparison, their previous highest paid assistants were:

  • Texas A&M
    • DC John Chavis: $1,600,000 a year
    • OC Noel Mazzone: $800,000 a year
  • Arkansas
    • OC Dan Enos: $800,000 a year
    • DC Paul Rhoads: $700,000 a year
