Mark Emmert, the president of NCAA, said he would like to see the CFP playoffs increased from four to eight teams. Emmert said, "It would be really fun to have a model where those five [conference] champions all got a crack at moving forward."
Here's what the 8-team playoff matches would look like this year. Note that Ohio State has already played all 4 teams in the right column! Would adjustments be made so Ohio State played Washington?
#1 Alabama | vs | #8 Wisconsin |
#2 Clemson | vs | #7 Oklahoma |
#3 Ohio State | vs | #6 Michigan |
#4 Washington | vs | #5 Penn State |
Yahoo Sports has been headlining this story for two days, but ESPN has nothing to say about it. I wonder which TV network has contracted for the current CFP playoff coverage?

Last year and the year before, the 8-team playoffs would have been arranged like this:
2015 | 2014 | |||||
#1 Clemson | vs | #8 Notre Dame | #1 Alabama | vs | #8 Michigan State
#2 Alabama | vs | #7 Ohio State | #2 Oregon | vs | #7 Mississippi State
#3 Michigan State | vs | #6 Stanford | #3 Florida State | vs | #6 Texas Christian
#4 Oklahoma | vs | #5 Iowa | #4 Ohio State | vs | #5 Baylor |
Many major problems and issues with teams and fan bases would not have existed if Ohio State, Notre Dame, Iowa and Stanford had been included in the playoffs, and even more so in 2014, if Baylor and Texas Christian had been included.
And how about Ohio State against Alabama for 3 years running?
