Well the week started out rough, but the BaseBucks finished strong to split the week and get their fourth straight series win overall and third in the conference.

In another midweek MACtion game, the Buckeyes hosted Bowling Green and, it could not have gone much worse, especially from the start. The Falcons took an immediate commanding 4-0 lead before the Buckeyes could record a single out, and only a couple batters later, starting pitcher Ryan Butler was taken out after recording only 1 out. The Falcons would get 2 more across to take a 6-0 lead after the T1. They added another run in the T2, but Alex Bemis got Ohio State on the board with a solo homer in the B3. Bowling Green took that run back in the T4, but a 2-run shot by Miles Vandenheuvel, bringing Lee Ellis home to cut the lead to 8-3 after 4. From there, the Buckeyes were held to only 2 other hits and the Falcons got 1 more in the T9 to take the game 9-3. The aforementioned starting pitcher, Butler, recorded the loss, his first decision of the year.

After that midweek clunker, Ohio State hosted Penn State over the weekend, and....

Game 1 on Friday started off well as the Buckeyes grabbed a quick 1-0 lead as Noah Furcht launched a solo home run in the B1. The Buckeyes then extended the lead in the B2 as an RBI single by Maddix Simpson brought Ellis home and then Vandenheuvel blasted a 3-run bomb, scoring Simpson and Jacob Parr to take an early 5-0 lead. However, from there, the Buckeye bats went silent and Penn State kept chipping away slowly, but surely, until they took a 7-5 lead in the T7. The Buckeyes got 1 back in the B7 as Henry Kaczmar came home on a passed ball, and threatened to retake the lead with the bases loaded, but did nothing with that opportunity. Then Penn State slammed the door on the Buckeyes with a 3-run homer in the T8 to take the series opener 10-6. Reliever Jake Michalak recorded the loss, dropping him to 5-1 on the year, as he allowed 5 runs on 5 hits through 1.0 innings.

Game 2 on Saturday was almost an exact opposite of Friday. The ball was kept inside the park all game in a defensive affair. The Buckeyes again struck first in the B1 as Alex Bemis scored on a sac-fly by Dane Harvey. An RBI double by Furcht sent Kaczmar home to extend the lead to 2-0 after 3. The scoring stopped briefly, until Penn State got on the board in the T6, but Ohio State got that critical run back in the B8 as Kaczmar came home again, this time on a sac-fly by Simpson. Penn State threatened to extend the game as they got the run back and got a man to 3rd in the T9, but closing pitcher Ryan Zamora closed the door on the Nittany Lions to record his second save of the season and give the Buckeyes the 3-2 win to even up the series. Starter Chris Domke recorded the win, breaking him above .500 on the season at 4-3 as he allowed only 1 run on 7 hits through 5.2 innings.

The Buckeye bats woke up in Sunday's rubber match. Ohio State took a quick 3-0 lead in the B1 as an RBI double by Simpson and RBI singles by Parr and Ellis brought Furcht, Harvey, and Parr home, respectively. Penn State got 2 back in the T2, but Ohio State quickly responded RBI single by Bemis brought Grant Mangrum home after he started the inning with a triple. Later on, Bemis came home on a bases loaded walk, and Kaczmar came home on a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 6-2. Then in the B4, Harvey launched a solo home run, but Penn State got that back with a solo shot of their own in the T5, sending the game to 7-3. But Ohio State responded in a big way in the B5. Three plunked batters loaded the bases, and then Kaczmar launched a GRAND SLAM, bringing Vandenheuvel, Mangrum, and Bemis home with him, and then Simpson hit an RBI single to send Furcht home to break the game open to 12-3. Penn State got 3 back in the T6, but Mangrum responded with an RBI single to bring Ellis home in the B6 and then Parr hit a 2-run bomb, bringing Simpson home, in the B7 to stretch the lead to 15-6. Penn State staved off the run rule with 4 in the T8, and things got hairy in as Penn State loaded the bases with no outs, but closing pitcher Nick Sawyer sealed the deal by getting the next three straight batters out to ice the 15-10 series clinching win.

After the 2-2 week, Ohio State moved to 19-15 (9-6). Bowling Green improved to 14-19 with a second midweek win against Lourdes and a single weekend win against Central Michigan. Penn State moved to 10-23 (4-11) with their midweek win against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Up Next, Ohio State closes out the home stand against 15-18 Marshall on Wednesday before travelling to West Lafayette to face 25-10 (12-6) Purdue.
