Well, in a road series against Washington and a return trip to Xavier, this week was certainly better from a competitive standpoint, but there is still a lot of improvement to be desired.
Game 1 on Friday was a back and forth affair all game, and would be a precursor to the entire weekend. Washington got off to an early 1-0 lead in the B2, but Henry Kaczmar responded immediately with a 2-RBI double in the T3, sending CJ Reid and Miles Vandenheuvel home to take a 2-1 lead. A Husky solo homer in the B4 tied the game. Ohio State then responded with a 3-run T5 as Noah Furcht hit an RBI double to score Kaczmar and then came home himself on an RBI single by Mason Eckelman, who was subsequently brought home himself on an RBI double by Alex Bemis. Vandenheuvel then scored on a Husky error in the T6 to open up a 6-2 Ohio State lead. Washington got 3 back in the B6, but an RBI double by Dane Harvey in the T7 sent Bemis home to bring the score to 7-5. Washington tied it up in the B7, but in the T8, Reid scored on a sac-bunt by Kaczmar and Lee Ellis scored on an RBI single by Furcht to take a 9-7 lead. Washington again tied it up in the B8, and the 9th was scoreless to send the game to extras where Ellis played hero and hit a solo homer in the T10 that would prove to be the game winner as Ohio State held on for the series opening 10-9 win. Closer Jake Michalak recorded the win to bring him to 2-0 on the season.

Game 2 on Saturday followed a similar script, though with a different result. This time, Ohio State jumped out to an immediate 2-0 lead as Eckelman hit an RBI double to score Kaczmar and Bemis hit an RBI single to score Furcht. Washington got one back in the B1, but Ohio State extended the lead to 4-1 as Eckelman and Kaczmar teamed up for a run again, this time on a sac-fly. Then Harvey sent Furcht home on an RBI single. This score would hold until the B5 when Washington tied the game, scoring all 3 runs with 2 outs. Both offenses went cold and the score remained the same for the rest of the game until extras again when Washington hit a walk-off RBI single in the B11 to take the 5-4 series equalizer. Closer Lincoln McVicker recorded the loss, his first decision of the season.

Game 3 followed a similar pattern yet again, but this time without extra innings. Washington got off to an early lead with a 3-run B3, but Ohio State took 2 back immediately as Harvey brought Furcht home on a sac-fly followed by Eckelman coming home on a wild pitch in the T4. Washington got an insurance run in the B7, but Ohio State would not go down easy. Bemis sent Kaczmar home on an RBI single in the T8 and Vandenheuvel tied the game on a solo homer in the T9, his first of his college career. However, Washington would take the series on another walk-off in the B9, again winning the game 5-4. Closer Nick Sawyer recorded the loss, his first decision of the season,

To close the week (yes, I know, in the midweek), Ohio State paid a return visit to 6-15 Xavier, and this one went much better than the home game. Ohio State got off to another immediate lead as Eckelman brought Bemis home on an RBI groundout in the T1. The BaseBucks extended the lead in the T2 as Bemis and Kaczmar hit RBI singles to send Steven Cavaco and Vandenheuvel home, respectively and give Ohio State a 3-0 lead. Xavier tied the game in the B2 and then took the lead in the B5, but Alex Bemis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, sending Harvey home to tie the game in the T6. That score would hold until extras again when Ohio State had a massive T10. Reid, Kazmar, and Furcht each hit an RBI single, scoring Maddix Simpson, Cavaco, Bemis, and Reid respectively, giving Ohio State an 8-4 lead that would hold as the final score as closer Jake Michalak would catch the entire B10 looking as he struck out the side in order, earning his third win of the season.

After the 2-2 split week, Ohio State moved to 7-12 (1-5). Washington improved to 9-11, and Xavier dropped to 6-16.
Up Next, Ohio State hosts 5-16 Butler this weekend before paying a trip to 5-12 Wright State on Tuesday that will be included if I do not get the new post up by Sunday night.
