One of the worst performances by an Ohio State offense in recent memory will hopefully be just a distant memory the rest of the season. Despite scoring ZERO first quarter goals, Ohio State managed to outlast a feisty Georgetown squad that was fresh off a beat down at the hands of Notre Dame. Georgetown played its best game of the season, top to bottom, but couldn't quite do enough to stop the Buckeyes from coming out on top.

Let's be very clear. Only Garrett Haas' last goal prevented this game from being a totally disastrous performance on his part. Haas had 5 turnovers to his 4 points. Time and again, Georgetown was able to parlay a Haas throwaway into a Hoya tally.

The rest of the offense wasn't much better. Khalif Hocker, though talented, is a volume shooter. Hocker scored a single goal on 6 shots. His touch HAS to be better for Ohio State to get where they want to go.

Russell Melendez missed on all 5 of his shots, while Marinier at least went 2 for 5. It was just a bad, bad shooting day, dodging day, everything.

Legitimately 3 of OSU's 10 goals were completely lucked into. Including the winner. Which was actively kicked into the goal by the keeper.

Defensively, Ohio State played well. The goals were almost entirely a result of good offense causing some defensive breakdowns. Georgetown attacked matchups, created chaos, and generally shot pretty well. More than a few goals were the result of good shooting deception.

Ohio State really can't complain about much on the D side. That unit played well. Very well.

At faceoff, Matt Mayfield went 9-15, while Jack Oldman struggled to 2-8. I think the starter should be pretty clear right now. Ohio State was under .500, but by a single Faceoff.

Overall, Ohio State was lucky. Very, very lucky. They won, but it was touch and go all day. The offense was off in terms of execution. The defense was under a lot of pressure all game. Faceoffs were bad for a while. Special teams didn't pan out. It was just a rough game.

But they won. Experiences like this will be invaluable in April. Which is good, because Ohio State won't play a true road game of note until then. Up next: Notre Dame at home.

Vengeance. All about Vengeance.

Go Buckeyes!!
