Ohio State and UCLA set an NCAA men’s volleyball record for the most points ever played in a set during their match on Thursday night.
The Buckeyes and Bruins went back and forth for 94 points before UCLA finally took the two-point lead needed to win the second set, 48-46. They broke the record for the most points in a set previously set by BYU and Grand Canyon in Feb. 25, 2021, when a set lasted 88 points before Grand Canyon won the set 45-43.
Despite the record-setting battle for the second set, Ohio State was ultimately swept by UCLA, the No. 1-ranked team in the country, in three sets (25-21, 48-46, 25-20). The 13th-ranked Buckeyes are now 4-2 on the season.
The Buckeyes will continue their West Coast trip on Friday night by playing No. 4 USC (10 p.m., B1G+).
