My apologies for my unexpected hiatus the last several weeks; college duties finally caught up to me, but I was able to finish up and graduate last Monday, and now I am back home and have a little extra time right now. This one will not be as detailed as normal, because of the amount of games to cover. And Happy Mother's Day to you all who are mothers. You truly play a special role in our lives that nothing can replace.

Last time I brought an update - after the USC series - I made a remark that with the long homestands, the next several weeks would shape the way the season would turn out. Well, it did, but not in the way we would have hoped. Continued pitching and defensive ineptitude combined with declining offensive production led to multiple sweeps and run-rule losses to continue the worst season since at least 1999 (how far back the official website records go).

To start the homestand, Ohio State welcomed in Kent State. Ohio State never led in this game, unable to get anything going offensively as the Golden Flashes took the win 8-3. Starting pitcher Zak Sigman recorded the loss, his first decision of the year.

After that, the Buckeyes hosted Minnesota for a weekend series and got swept again, losing 5-10 on Friday, 2-9 on Saturday, and 4-6 on Sunday. Pitchers Drew Erdmann (0-4), Gavin Kuzniewski (3-3), and Luke Carrell (0-2), respectively recorded the losses.

The following Tuesday, Ohio State hosted Wright State, and in by far the best game, performance-wise, Ohio State handled business, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead after the 1st inning, and winning 18-2 in 7 innings. Reliever Luke Carell earned the win, his first of the year, bringing him to 1-2.

Drew Erdmann (0-6) and Gavin Kuzniewski (3-4) recorded the losses, sandwiching the win by Douglas Bauer (bringing him to 2-1) and Hunter Shaw's first save of the season.

The following weekend, Ohio State hosted rival TTUN, and it was embarrassing by all definitions of the word. There was no ounce of competitiveness as Ohio State got swept, losing 1-23 (7), 4-11, and 3-13 (8). Drew Erdmann (0-7), Gavin Kuzniewski (3-5), and Jake Michalak (1-5), respectively, recorded the losses.

Off the diamond, a big congratulations to Will Carpenter, Nick Giamarusti, Jaylen Jones, Trey Lipsey, Ryan Miller, and Tyler Pettorini on earning your degrees and graduating from THE Ohio State University.

Then, this last weekend, Ohio State took its final road trip of the season, visiting Northwestern with Friday's game at Wrigley Field, and took one from the Wildcats, sandwiched by two more run-rule losses, losing 2-12 (7) and 2-17 (7) and winning 11-6. Drew Erdmann (0-8) and Jake Michalak (1-6) recorded the losses, and Hunter Shaw (3-4) earned the win.

Up Next, as Ohio State is far and away in last place in the B1G standings, they will close out the season hosting 14-37 Butler on Tuesday and 27-22 (12-15) Illinois from Thursday to Saturday. All 4 games will be streamed on BTN+.
