F@#& the committee. I don't know who Nick Myers pissed off, but at this point I think I would be setting up drone strikes all over the East Coast. This is worse chicanery than what you might have seen when Boss Tweed was running New York City.
Ohio State, with losses to only Utah (in game one!!!) and Maryland, draws the 4 seed. Their opening game is against NOTRE DAME. A dangerous team that Ohio State barely squeaked by in the regular season.
If Ohio State manages to win, they will get a matchup against PENN STATE. Penn. Freaking. State. Apparently wins don't matter to the lacrosse powers that be. And Maryland losing to Rutgers, the Wolverines, and LOWER SEED OHIO STATE doesn't count against them.
Duke, at #7, drew pissant Georgetown in their opener. Penn State gets Colgate. North Carolina gets RICHMOND. And Syracuse gets to play Harvard.
This draw is absolute bullshit. For the Buckeyes and Notre Dame, frankly. We have literally already seen Ohio State play each of their next two (potential) opponents in the regular season. I guess now the difference is that Ohio State will get to be at home, and then at a neutral site?
I mean...look, you gotta beat the best to be the best. But Ohio State already did. Both times. A potential matchup against Cornell is the first time the Buckeyes would play someone new this season. IF Cornell gets there. I remain unconvinced by their D.
Honestly, this basically what happened to Oregon in football in the playoff. You win a Big Ten title, and your reward is a rematch against pissed off a previous opponent? Except now, it's TWO previous opponents, in a ROW?
I say again. F@#$ the committee. I hope the team is as pissed off about this draw as I am. Because they got absolutely screwed, despite beating 6 out of 7 conference opponents when you include repeats. What a joke of a national tournament bracket. The committee should be ashamed. Two rematches in the opening rounds, potentially, for no freaking reason.
For easy reference:
Ohio State plays Notre Dame in the opener, the winner of Penn State/Colgate in the quarters (Penn State), and then the winner of Cornell vs UNC/Richmond in the Final Four.
Setting up a gauntlet of Notre Dame, Penn State, Cornell (maybe), just to GET to the title game. While Maryland gets rewarded with a bunch of shit ass teams on the other half of the bracket. Pathetic.
Go Buckeyes. Beat Notre Dame. Again.
