With the Dartmouth basketball team voting to organize, what will the repercussions be now that players can unionize and become employees? Will they now receive W-2’s? Are items they receive for free not related to performance of their jobs now taxable like all the extra shirts, sweats , shoes etc? Will the complimentary tickets for games they receive for families be considered income? Like professional athletes, will they be required to pay local payroll taxes in each municipality that they “earn” income in?( every away game city). Can they be terminated for cause (poor performance or rule breaking) or laid off?  Are they now eligible for insurance and retirement benefits? Do their injuries fall under the review of OSHA for unsafe working conditions? Are they eligible for overtime pay if they work more than 40 hours in a week? What is the end result of the new college model?
