History Will Repeat Itself, The 4-Team Playoff Will Be Dead After The Championship Game Next Week

In 2011 LSU secured it's spot with in the BCS title game with a win in the SEC Championship Game and would either play Oklahoma State or Alabama in the title game.  Oklahoma State easily beat Oklahoma, Alabama stayed home from the SEC title after getting beat by LSU 9-6 in a snoozefest overtime game earlier in the season.  Immediately following the 44-10 beatdown Oklahoma State gave Oklahoma, ESPiN went to work advocating for a rematch of its preferred team, Alabama.  It was an ESPiN SEC lovefest near the height of the ridiculous SEC bias which plagued the network until that perception was blown away on an 85-yard run in 2014.  Oklahoma State's only loss came to Iowa State in Ames, IA in double overtime with the help from a little controversy on a "missed field goal" which sailed inside and over the uprights.

Oklahoma State had a better strength of schedule, but Alabama was in the SEC and had the most powerful name in sports media and most of the pollsters on its side.  Alabama got to play LSU, it was the lowest rated BCS title game in the BCS's 14-year history, and the playoff discussion literally followed the next day.

Mark my words, just like in 2011, this year's playoff selection will be the catalyst for a 6-team or 8-team playoff in the near future.  The ratings for the Georgia vs Alabama game will be abysmal.  People don't want to watch a conference championship game for a national title.  UCF showed that a non-P5 team can hang with anybody, even Auburn which beat both of the teams in the title game.  The B1G and Pac-12 bth were both shut out of the playoff despite the B1G going 7-1 as a conference in its bowl games (it should've been 8-0, thanks TTUN).  It's the perfect storm to show how the 4-team playoff is no better than the BCS and college football fans are pissed.
