So this is a document I wrote earlier in the week Wednesday to be exact. I was hoping it would get published but, it didn't and so I decided to post it here, though it may not be as relevant. I still think it makes for a strong argument.

Play Somebody

I believe that the committee has an opportunity this year to really make a strong stance to improve the process of who gets into the college football playoff and improve the quality of college football going forward.

With all the talk about conference champions, head to head, strength of record, strength of schedule. I believe that with Ohio States' placement at #2 the committee is saying loud and clear that who you play matters. I think this is the right choice and believe that by the Committee keeping Ohio State in the playoff as they will. It will show other teams that if you want to make it to the postseason. Play somebody.

On Tuesday CFP selection committee chairman, Kirby Hocutt said the decision between Washington and Michigan, was very thin. Washington has had a remarkable season and deserves some praise. But, if the committee were to leave them out Sunday, in favor of a team who actually booked a strong OOC schedule they could make a resounding statement. That would surely leave a lot of people screaming, "It's not fair, they only lost one game." To which the committee can say, who have they played? Who have they beaten?

Winning your conference is a remarkable achievement but in a world where a 3-4 loss team has a legit chance of winning a conference title over a one or zero loss team depending on division split. I say conference title should not mean so much. With absolutely everyone saying Alabama can no call no show the SEC title game and still get in. It's obvious that conference titles are not a be all end all for who's the better team and who deserves a seat at the table.

Early in the year, we saw an epic Louisville, Clemson game late in the year we watched a classic Ohio State, Michigan game. Sure they were in conference, sure Louisville slid afterward but had they not, all four teams would still have a legit claim to being a top four team and all four would be matchup’s we’d love to see again. Also for teams afraid to lose, losing close to good teams doesn’t hurt that bad and in fact could strengthen your case, especially if it were on the road. However, if you get blown-out well, better to get blown out in September than January.

If the committee leaves Washington out, which they won't. It would force teams to schedule better teams. And, I believe that teams should be rewarded for going on the road to play USC, Oklahoma, Auburn, Florida State, LSU. And, you know what that means? Better football in the regular season. Teams will be forced to play other good teams. Which leads to a more clear look at who are the true best four best teams in college football. Playing Portland State, Idaho State, and apologise  2-10 Rutgers doesn’t.   Sure everyone can still have their slice of cake in September but, just one, not two, not three. ONE! After that like the bikini in the beauty pageant. If you want to fit into that top four, you gotta stop eating cake. And play somebody!
