Anyone here have any experience owning a vacation rental? I have experience with long term local rental properties, but I realize VR are a different animal. In a perfect world I'd like to buy a place that I could potentially retire to someday (I'm 29, so I have a while). Not set on any place in particular, but had a few in mind around the Gulf (Destin, Ft. Myers etc). Some people have told me they have had pretty good luck with owning a VR and others say to stay far away from them because its nearly impossible to make anything after property management, insurance, and other fees. I'm not necessarily looking for a huge amount of cash flow, but rather have equity built for me. What say you?
