So my son's day of decision just happens to fall on National Signing Day. We applied for three different magnet programs, and we'll find out tomorrow which, if any, chose him. The school he's zoned for doesn't exactly have the best reputation (i.e., student-on-student violence, lack of institutional control, etc.), so it was a no-brainer to at least take a chance. Assuming all three accept him, it's a choice between:
- A heavy focus on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplines;
- A focus on engineering, including robotics once they get into 8th grade;
- A project-based program focusing on personalized learning and integrated subjects.
His preference is for the STEM school, which I'm loving, because math is both his best and favorite subject. Plus, they have a Minecraft club, so he would be in his glory.
Cross your fingers.
