That would be huge! He will probably be a 5 star and I think is already one at 247. Him and Jonathan Haden would be outstanding running backs for the 2014 class.
Hurd must have change his mind in the last couple weeks. I had heard Bama was the leader.. I live in the same city Hurd lives in. Hurd had his worst game of the year against Wilson central for 73 yards.Hurd from the same city where Johnny Cash lived.
It was said that OSU was recruiting Hurd as a running back, while Bama was recruiting him as an "athlete" ... I'm sure that was probably the deciding factor. I also think the more success R.Smith has the greater the chance of a commit from Mr.Hurd as well, I think their about the same height w/R.Smith of course being the heavier of the 2.
According to the 2014 offer list posted on this site it shows Hurd as an ATH and not RB. If Urban takes 2 RBs and Haden is 1 what about that Horton kid from Illinois? I say take all 3
Bama already has a committment in 2014 from Bo Scarbough(spelling) and will soon get another 2014 rb committ in Rock Thomas, both top rb's in the 2014 class. Definitely think that helped us take the lead for Hurd. Great news though, he is definitely one of those guys who could be elite.
@weimerad- 2014 is not a year that I see us taking 2 runningbacks, but let alone 3? no way! I could see us getting 2 RBs in this class IF someone were to leave via NFL or Transfer, which I dont see happening. I think if Hurd was to commit to OSU, he would come in as an athlete & Meyer would find somewhere to play him at all times due to his athleticism & talent. He could play RB, but I dont see us bringing him in as a RB or taking 2 RBs in this class. I think he will play WR, or I wonder if the kid can play LB at all? He could be our 2014 edition of Derrick Henry
Bucknut8 - that's what I was getting at when I see Hurd listed as an ATH, not a true RB. He can be used in alot of different ways, ala Jalin Marshall. Look at the depth at RB right now:
1. Hall - gone after this season
2. 2013 - Hyde will be a senior, Smith will be a Jr., Dunn a Soph and Ball a redshirt FR, and Elliot a true Fr
In 2014 when these recruits are Freshmen, this will be the 4 RBs on the roster. I honestly believe the staff will take 2-3 RBs in this class, such as Haden, who is a smaller back like Elliot and a bigger RB like Horton or Derrell Scott. Hurd will be used in multiple ways.
And on a side note, I personally believe that Urban will take 2 QBs in 2014, and I hope it's Barker and Crest. Just my 2 cents
I live down here in Nashville, and went and saw him play in the opener for his HS season. The one thing to remember is he is playing in a "lower" division because his school is smaller (I woud liken it to playing in Division 3 of OH HS football) so his number could be a little inflated by that....
BUT, when you see him live, he is the real deal. Power, speed, vision. And they just feed him the ball. Which clearly shows his coach is smart. If you have that talented of a player, get the ball in his hands as many times as possible and let him find ways to score.
Doesn't his school also run some version of the wishbone offense? That was one of my knocks against Ty Isaac this year. Wishbone + lower competition can inflat stats quite a bit.
I think we get 2 RB's, especially if Hurd commits. I just really can't picture Haden ending up anywhere other than here with how he talks about Urban. But it's REALLY early for 2014...
^ I agree. if Hurd commits to us & we are recruiting him as a RB, then I can maybe see us taking 2 RB's next year. But if Hurd goes else where, then I see us taking 1.
Eagle_Eye- You also have sources claiming that Jalin Marshall is going to decommit from Ohio State and commit to a school where he has the chance to play quarterback.
Awesome!

Dude looks tough. That is exciting to see for sure!
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Thank you Derrick Henry going to bama for this one if Urban pulls it off

Hurd is an absolute beast, and would be a HUGE pickup for Urban. Really hope he pulls him in
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Hopefully it stays this way. Things change with time
He tall for a rb 6 foot 3in

Hurd considers himself a RB, and thats what he wants to play. I don't know anything about the kid from Illnois
A lot of speculation that he dropped 'Bama because of their depth at RB and recent high profile RB commitments. Speculation though

Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
This kid would be absolutely ridiculous in Meyer's offense. He could be used in a bunch of different ways.

Personally I think he has more of a future at HB/TE but he seems set on playing RB
Just exchanged messages, it is indeed true.
Ohio State is leader, Florida #2, Bama #3
Got to like how this is trending.
Hurd is a monster for his age. Derek, i know its wayyyyyy too early but do u think Urban would take both Hurd and Haden if they wanted in?

HE a good reciver 2 weeks ago 70 yards rec touchdtown. I wish could have seen him gvet his 500 yard rushing game.

He definitely would look good in Scarlet & Gray!
Hurd wants to be a RB, which is why I assume Bama dropped to #3 on his list, but I will be talking to him tonight and will get the story on that.
OSU is recruiting him as a RB, and he's a talented one, but that doesn't mean OSU will put him all over the field.
I think you could see 2 RB's next year, but it's nothing concrete. Got to see how things shake out before then.

Hurd sperated his shoulder las friday. The team he played 10 and 11 men in the box.
Hurd, Horton, or Haden. Who would we want the most if we could only choose one?
Bama want Hurd as a outside linemacker. Freinds of mine who know coaches at Beech high school claims he already sign a leter of intent to Bama.
You can commit to a school but you can't sign a letter of intent until Signing Day, and since he's a 2014 recruit, that would be in February of 2014.
Eagle_Eye- You also have sources claiming that Jalin Marshall is going to decommit from Ohio State and commit to a school where he has the chance to play quarterback.
Beech High school won state football title 2 years ago.
He already signed a letter of intent? LOL, ok
still concern Vand and Tennessee will start recruting him hard. Vabdy is hard to turn down 40,000 a year scholaship.
Yes, the education @ Vanderbilt is excellent. The football, not so much.
James Franklin is get top state players to to vandy.TAlk about a short drive 20 ninutes.
This guy seems like a beast. Would love to get him!!!
