Daniel Jeremiah released his final mock draft. If you are unfamiliar DJ is a former scout who now works for the NFL network. His mocks are typically more accurate than the average media and he uses his connections to help make picks. Last year he had Stroud going #2 when most had him falling while also saying the Texans will trade back up for Will Anderson. He also had Paris Johnson as OT1 when most had him further down.
Interesting Picks:
- #1 Caleb Williams, #2 Jayden Daniels, #3 Drake Maye-There has been conversation over the order of Maye/Daniels but it seems like the draft will start in this order. Commanders get Daniels and Patriots get Maye
- #4 Arizona- Marv Harrison Jr-Arizona comes back to Columbus to take Marv our there with Paris Johnson. They have a glaring hole at WR and he should be the focal point of the offense as a rookie with QB Kyler Murray back to health.
- #5 Chargers-JC Latham OT Bama-Everybody has Alt as OT1 but DJ says Latham could be the first off. He also says he thinks the Chargers will want to trade down with so many OT options.
- #9 Bears-Olu Fashanu OT PSU-Interesting the Bears could pass on Odunze and go OT after drafting a couple OTs recently. Many have fashanu dropping. DJ also says the Bears want to trade down.
- #10 Jets-Rome Odunze WR Wash-DJ says the Jets want Odunze and may even trade up to secure him. This has been a popular spot to send Brock Bowers in other mocks
- #11 Vikings-JJ McCarthy QB Michigan-Interesting intel here, Vikings want JJ but doesn't think they will make a big trade up to secure him early like many expect(although could go a couple spots.) Says they would also be comfortable with Penix.
- #13 Raiders-Micahel Penix QB Wash-Raiders need a QB bad and take Penix.
- #18 Bengals-Byron Murphy DT Texas-DJ notes that Murphy could end up going top 10 and is somebody teams like more than media.
- #20 Steelers-Tyler Guyton OT OkState-Steelers want a CB if they get the right one but if not take a tier 2 OT
- #22 Broncos-QB Bo Nix-DJ thinks the Broncos want to try and trade down to get picks and also land their guy in Nix.
Trade intel-
- Commanders/Patriots are getting heavy offers to trade down for teams that want Daniels/Maye. Interesting that they havent shut the door on that but he think they take QB.
- Giants are in no mans land, they want to trade up for a QB but dont want to take JJ/Penix/Nix at 6.
- Chargers and Bears are top 10 teams that want to trade down
- Broncos want to trade down and get Nix/Penix later, they dont have a 2nd round pick
- There are ALOT of teams that want to trade up to secure one of the OTs in this elite OT class. The top of the first round has crazy talent at OT but is very weak later on.
- Eagles, Colts, Saints, Commanders(from their 2nd round pick) are teams that have had discussions about moving up and DJ thinks those are for OTs
Player intel-
- The OT class is as elite as advertised and NFL teams want the top group bad(Latham, Alt, Fashanu, Fuaga, Fautanu)
- Bo Nix and Michael Penix are very very likely going round 1
- The defensive players in the top 20ish picks are very very variable. Byron Murphy could go top 10 or fall to the Bengals at 18. Laitu Latu could go to the Falcons or fall into the 20s. CBs Terrion Arnold and Quinyon Mitchell could go earlier than some expect. Johnny Newton has been projected falling into the 2nd round and he doesnt see that happening
- Brian Thomas could be falling later than some expect. Elite athlete, elite production, just doesnt run a real route tree.
