Jimmy Byrne ('14 OL Offer)

I noticed yesterday where I saw on ESPN website somewhere that Byrne attended the ND/scUM game, but not only did he visit, he said that the visit has really set the bar high and that he closer to a decision now.

Is it starting to look bad for OSU? I really hope not as I really like to keep the top kids in Ohio, THAT DESERVE TO PLAY FOR THE BUCKEYES, because not all of the top kids in Ohio (by rankings) deserve to be a Buckeye. This kid has always wanted to be a Buckeye, he really likes Meyer and our OL depth is still quite thin. so what is the deal? anybody know?

ND seems to have blown him away on his visit, persumably theyre the frontrunners with osu in second now.  Hopefully we can get him to visit and blow him away even more, would stink to lose him but wouldn't be devistating at this point to our 2014 OL class.

Everything worked in Notre Dame's favor for his visit. They had a night game with an electric atmosphere. They won the game and with their undefeated record, optimism is at a high in South Bend.

I don't know what it is or what they do when a kid visits, but a lot of kids come away from visiting ND impressed.

ND is tough to turn down for Ignatius kids.

Notre Dame does not have electric atmospheres. You hear the talk about OSU fans being quiet and sitting on their hands during the game... go to a notre dame game, its more like a golf tournament.

I got that same vibe that ND was his leader after reading that. Hopefully we can get him for a visit during the Nebraska game or scUM game and show him our awesome atmosphere in the shoe!

I don't get it either.  ND's campus is nice, and the buildings are pretty, and I'll even admit that touchdown Jesus is really impressive.  That said, the stadium is underwhelming at best (inside and out), and South Bend ain't exactly paradise. I think the catholic school angle cannot be ignored here.

@theduke, I have to disagree with your statement that notre dame is not an electric atmosphere. I went to the cal game two games ago at the horseshoe and it was so quiet and like the fans were not interested. I then went with some friends to the notre dame vs michigan game last week and i can tell you that first hand that stadium was crazy. it was 20 times more electric than the shoe was. Now i know it was a night game and a big game and i know that the cal game didnt have much hype about it, but as a true diehard buckeye fan i can honestly admit that my notre dame experience blew my horseshoe experience out of the water.

It's all about playing at night, gentlemen.   The atmosphere is generally more electeric as is the quality of competition because it is a prime time game.    The older folks who "sit on there hands" don't go to night games.

It the same at all the major schools.

It is September 2012, I think we have some time to make an impression.

@Akron, I can't compare the Shoe with many other college stadiums, but I think most people who've been to a few games there recognize that the range of excitement from mad house to church can be close to psychotic.  Given that range, there are a few predictable things.  If the game is against a lightly regarded opponent, starts at 12, and the Buckeyes are struggling, it will be quiet enough to hear the ulcers growing.

Thing is at Ignatius a large chunk of dads/uncles/grandpas/older brothers have a ND connection and the pipeline continues on and on.

@Akron, you might be right. I still hate Notre Dame and I'm Irish. My best memory of them is the 06 Fiesta Bowl when we racked up 700 million yards on the unbeatable Charlie Weis'. They wore shirts that read "Jesus is on our team" and yelled at me to sit down during the game. again, you're probably correct, it was an electric atmosphere, the night game against a historical rival, compared to our nooner with Cal. I'll take the 'Shoe against any place in the country for a night game. I remember when Vince Young and Texas rolled into town for a night game. There was a TON of Texans in attendance and they raved about the atmosphere afterwards.

... i just can't face the fact that there might be something good that comes out of that pit that is NW Indiana. Cheers mate!

side note- i also remeber the greatest night game in the history of college footbal, '06 #1v#2, but i don't even want to open that up... i'll cry.

The 06 1 v 2 was a 3:30 start if I remember correctly. Still quite possibly the best regular season game in OSU history. AMAZING atmosphere

That doesn't take away from the sheer awesomeness that game was though. That is still one of the top 5 experiences of my life

First time poster here guys so take it easy on me.

I lived in South Bend for 8 years before returning home to the great state of O-HI-O in July to start a new job. I consider myself an avid Buckeye fan but an appreciatist of all college football traditions. So of course I made my way to a few ND games. Most of them have been pretty boring other than looking at all the history around the stadium form years before my dad was born

I did go to the Meatchicken vs. ND game last weekend though and I have to say it was an electric crowd. Still nothing comaped to most of the Buckeye games I have been to but I can see why a high school kid would think it was impressive. It was loud and ND was pumping in music and noise right up until the snap. Sometimes bordering on too long.

MDGLASS45- I also live in South Bend and have for 8 years now and was at the game last weekend.  It was a fanastic atomsphere.  They did have some attempts at music and of course the band played. etc.  One thing is that the crowd was on their feet it seemed for most of the game and it although the stadium is smaller than the shoe it does have great energy!

With that being said, I am still trying to make it to a BIG Buckeye game that is in prime time as well to get a glimpse of the atmosphere.  I went to "the game" when I was younger and at that time did not appreciate what was going on.  Go Bucks!
