Didn't know this, I thought he was doing well and might be in at Center? he is only a redshirt freshmen right? or is he a sophomore either way thats pretty weak to me he is transfering already before the spring is over. Urban doesn't want players like that anyway.
93.1FM out of Lima, OH did a after work drive home local sports radio show interviewing Buckeye Sports Bulliten editor Mark Rhea, and that is what he said
this is just a rumor at this point but it makes sense... he is about 30-40 pounds from where he needs to play to be a starting center in the B1G... He's not tall enough to play tackle or gaurd... what do you do as a 3rd string undersized center? You don't see the center come out unless it's injuries or garbage time... getting passed by a true freshman who only played part of the spring is the writing on the wall... I like Bobek and this really hurts our O-Line depth but i could easily see it happening
I have only been on this site for about 2-3 months. But why is everyone so concerned about OL depth, was this an issue last year or the year before? Cause i don't see it being that bad, we signed what 4-5 OL last year and we won't loose anyone this year but Fragel. I think people are over doing the OL depth. We seemed to win 10 games every year with the OL tressel had which people said wasn't good.
My opinion is that our offensive line is in the top 30 of college football. The Buckeyes and we as fans, want them to be the best. Our offensive line needs improvement. It needs depth to help keep the players fresh and able to play at 100%. This made more true if OSU does go with an Oregon style up tempo. Also OL depth is crucial for giving the DL and defense as a whole better looks in practice.
BCS Nat Champ games against Florida and LSU showed that our old OL strategy wasn't the best, and we need to work at it.
@Alex - It's more of people know most of the guys behind the 1st unit really aren't college-ready and quite a few guys were recruited for a Tressel-style offense, not Urban's Oregon-esque spread.
technically this doesn't open up a schollie in the sense we are thinking in, it allows us to get people we are already heavily after, in reality before this we would only be able to get 2 more guys, now 3.
surprising because I think he was the #1 or #2 Center coming out of high school...in the whole country ... just goes to show you that those recruiting services can be off sometimes
Yeah, read that he was top 3 in country. Interesting how Lindsley was disenchanted and unhappy a year ago, and now is totally revved up and loves the program, and talked about how the new program made him get his act together.
I also recall the staff telling Joey O'Connor he could play Guard or Center, so I suppose he could step in as #3 Center right away if Bobek does decide to transfer.
Personally think O'Connor will be a great player. Very good motor and has a little nasty side to him to go with the motor. Like him a lot. Reminds me of Jim Lachey.
I am concerened about our OL depth is epitomized by one fact... we have a walk-on in the two deep right now... that really shouldn't happen. The 2-deep is going to be FULL of young kids next year with little experience behind the 1st teamers... Losing Bobek is big bcause Boren could easily slide over to gaurd if needed and Bobek would do fine at center, but without Bobek we can't move Boren because then we have depth at the center spot
Good lord man, you cannot recover from the damage done by Bollman in one recruiting class. Everybody knows we are thin on the OL, we have been for years. It is being addressed. It won't happen all at once - relax.
No better year to have young and inexperienced players than a year the team can't play for anything siginificant anyway. I'm ok with having some growing pains on the line and be a little thin this year. The year in general is going to be a learning experience. They are completely changing the offense in general. There are bound to be some hiccups this year.
Its not all uncommon to see a walk-on in the two deep. Some of these guys are hard workers and will do a lot to try and earn a scholarship. I think we all need to take DEEP breaths and learn to trust UFM.

There should be many more.GO BUCKS!
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
Where did you read this?
Wish him well, but it opens a schollie.
It was on Ohio State's 247sports site btw.

Cause I couldn't go for three
Oh well another schollie for '13...Give it to Khaliel Rodgers!!!
@silverbullet... kind of a bittersweet one... losing Oline depth sucks...

Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens

Odd timing considering Jacoby is coming off of surgery. But I think Bobek would never see the field at OSU.
Bobek will be a nice pick up for whichever school he decides...good luck to the guy.

I totally agree, FortMeyer. I think he'll end up being a Guard on our line, and I expect him to be a good one.
