wow --- that would be great...either 1 would be great ---- but both!?! --- oh yeah, you have room, you make room when it's two elite guys. These are the 2 best athletes in the country when it comes to fitting in to the Urban Offense.
Did anyone else just hear Urban accidently name drop Neal? He was talking about his incoming defense with the defensive line then moved to linebacker and mentioned Perkins, and I assume wanted to say Williams but said Neal. Interesting
I might be wearing a tinfoil hat but I think that was intentional. A subtle shout out from Urban to Neal, as if to say, I'm thinking about you brah, give me that LOI.
CDSPERR - I heard that too...Quint Kessenich asked him about the Defense, and Urban starting talking about the athletes he had, and he said, "...you have David Perkins...you have Neal", hmm...Freudian slip? He didn't necessarily correct himself either.
We'll never know if the "Neal" drop was intentional or not. Just pick a side, I suppose. I'll take it as a slip from a guy who's got Neal on the mind while juggling a new team, 25 new recruits, and dozens more for 2013.
In my opinion 2013 could be one of the nastiest college recruiting classes a coach has ever put together if Urban can get all these guys who are rumored to be Ohio State leans at this point. I know it's really early and the hype on some of these guys may die down some, but right now, the 2013 class is looking like it could be the best class I've ever seen at Ohio State, and potentially any class I've seen anyone put together the last 10 years or so.
Saying all that, I also realize, you really have to look back after 2-4 years and see how the class actually played before you can evaluate how great they truly were, but in terms of 5 stars and signing day hype, it's going to be a monster.
Has to mean that Urb & co. found something out about Neal that made this a dealbreaker. Because even if we had Diggs in the bag, we'd still take Neal, no?
Thanks DMcDougal, didn't get to watch the presser. Must mean that we have a really really good feel for Diggs, then. Or there's some mystery recruit out there.
Urban was funny during the number-giving. He said he has the count at 81 after the reporter put it at 84. Urban wouldn't disclose who was expected to be out, but was confident that the number was 81.
Mike Farrell said 7 hours ago Davonte Neal was an OSU lock. This guys just trying to predict something so it seems like he knows what happened when it acutally happens.
Urban did say the offense is missing a game changer speed wise aka Neal or Diggs. If this is indeed true then I would think that Diggs would be coming to OSU.
I don't think Farrell is eluding to a problem with Neal not wanting to go to Ohio State, I think it means Ohio State not having a commitable offer for Neal anymore. So, to Fail, I don't think it's just Farrell trying to cover his rear end for possibly missing a prediction.
I'm no insider, but I would have to agree. Neal fits the role of exactly what Urban said he needed. The only way Urban could turn that down is if someone fit that niche even better (Diggs)
T.Y. Williams has also complained on Twitter about his lack of playing time or looks when he was on the field....Pretty sure I remember him even saying after a game last season (and I'm paraphrasing here) "if they don't have use for a 6-6 WR here, maybe I need to go somewhere that they do..."
I'm not claiming to be an expert, but Farrell tweeted earlier that Neal would be in this class and now he tweets Neal is out, so who knows what information is right. I really dont care which one we take I will be happy with either one.
I understand some people wanting to grab both of these guys but I'm not ok with oversigning at all. That doesn't change for me just b/c of some stud players. Urban said we were at 81 and wasn't prepared to give info on the mystery 3 leaving. That's fine with me.
If we had a shot at both and had to turn Neal down for room, I think we'll live to regret it. I know you don't want push away anyone that's already on the team, or take away an earlier scholarship from the Fickell era, but turning down that sort of skill-set (maybe I'm biased in that I personally feel Neal looks better than Diggs in the highlights I've seen) always seems to come back to haunt you.
I suppose if he ends up with Notre Dame it won't necessarily hurt us (barring a future bowl game), but you do have to miss him. I want all the talent we can get. :/
My impression is that Diggs has the bigger upside, but Neal is right there too....It would be very significant and more or less equivalent to the team if either one end up in CBus!
@ Laishley, I think you're getting issues confused. Farrell tweeted earlier than Neal was in at Ohio State, meaning that he wanted to commit. Farrell is now tweeting that Neal tried to commit but could not.
Farrell is not retracting his previous tweet about Neal wanting to be a Buckeye. He is simply saying that Neal no longer has a commitable offer at Ohio State. The main issue now is whether we have 1 scholarship left (like Urban thought), in which case the Bucks are holding out for a different player or whether we have 0 scholarships left.
If anything I feel bad for the kid. I mean if you try and commit to a school after thinking about the right decision for so long and all of a sudden they tell you "oh we are sorry we don't have room for you" it's got to be a terrible feeling. On the other hand they (him and his family) should not have slow played his decision and he would most likely be a buckeye. I don't think Urban would do this without having a solid plan in place.
Okay...so who would be a better deep threat? The one who could "S T R e T C H the field more effectively!!

"The height of human desire is what wins, whether it's on Normandy Beach or in Ohio Stadium." ~Woody Hayes~
Also, keep in mind that there may be another person who decides he wants to go elsewhere if this is true about Neal. Could easily still happen. Bottom line though is that I'm very happy with this class & trust that Urban & staff know what their doing with this 1 open spot.
Ok I'm reaaalllyyyy confused as too why we wouldn't take Neal....unless Diggs is a absolute LOCK.....but 18 year olds are soooo fickle.....why not take Neal hope for Diggs because now if Diggs doesn't committ what do we do then???
IF Urban truly passes up on the oppurtunity to oversign and get BOTH Neal and Diggs, then I think I will be close to completely sold on this guy as our head coach. For those of you who said we should oversign, get out of here. That's not what The Ohio State University is about.
Question for anyone (and I apologize in advance if it's ridiculous)
It was obvious Urban mentioned the name "Neal" on TV today. Its my understanding that can be a violation if he was mentioned prior to a LOI.
Is there anyway because of that we had to turn him down (considering we are on probation already)?
It just makes no sense to voluntarily turn him down...
In regards to the different recruiting services I would definitely say Rivals/247 >>> Scout/ESPN. Scout hands out the fifth star like its candy, and ESPN has a massive contract with the SEC and hosts an All American game--they're going to make their products look the best.
Just watched some Diggs highlights on YouTube.... wow, he can move! But he also seemed to showboat after every play. Hope he doesn't have too big of a head
Not sure how reliable this is but someone on scout is reporting a florida insider is saying they are now out with Diggs. If thats the case could be good news. I would rather have told these guys fcfs. I cant believe we would turn down Neal. I think something more is going to come out behind this. Not enough scholarships to sign anyone else or Diggs is a silent commit.
Fellas this isn't a difficult equation. Davonte Neal "had" a committable offer to OSU & decided to wait (apparently he tried to pull the trigger today to OSU & COULDN'T B/C the offer was pulled so to speak). When Meyer made the mistake on the air today & said Neal (he wasn't referring to any specific name or position so therefore that wouldn't be a violation of NCAA rules as far as I understand). Obviously if he pulled the committable offer to Neal & has ONLY 1 SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE TO FINISH OUT THIS CLASS (this has been calculated by the staff I'm sure); Coach Meyer & staff have a plan & I'd be willing to bet it's Stefon Diggs (BOTH him & his mother loved their visit to OSU even though it was only a 24 hr visit). I have a feeling he's already made a pledge to Urban & OSU (silent commit). Coach Meyer wouldn't throw all of his eggs into 1 basket & pass on another athlete of similar skill & play-making ability without having something in place. All fingers point to Diggs being a Buckeye. THAT'S THE SPEEDSTER THAT HE WANTS TO BE ABLE TO STRETCH & UTILIZE THE WHOLE FIELD NOT ONLY VERTICALLY, BUT HORIZONTALLY"
Just say a post from Richard Obert, from what I read looked like he covered high school sports in Arizona for the Arizona Republic, he said he asked Luke Neal(Neal's Dad) and he knew nothing of a report that his son was denied to OSU.
Just say a post from Richard Obert, from what I read looked like he covered high school sports in Arizona for the Arizona Republic, he said he asked Luke Neal(Neal's Dad) and he knew nothing of a report that his son was denied to OSU.
Urbz is the man with the plan and I trust him wholeheartedly. If we passed on Neal it is probably for a darn good reason. I not in a position to second guess the Urbz. He has the plan in his head and will lay it all out come the fall.
The more I think about it the more it has to be something about Neal that scared Urban Meyer off. Alex reported today, and it was corroborated elsewhere, that Urban made a late-minute pitch as late as yesterday night for Joel Caleb. You don't do that if you have Diggs in the bag and you have one scholarship left. So it's either they recently got turned off by Neal and went after Caleb instead, not wanting to put all their eggs on the Diggs basket. OR they got some sort of commitment from Diggs today (post going after Caleb) that reassured them that they couldn't give that scholly out.
Basically the Joel Caleb thing in here makes me pretty worried it's the former. And we'll end up with neither Diggs, Neal, or Caleb.
I think the inside source is someone within the Arizona program trying to start a fire. I just read the tweets of a local reporter saying that Luke Neal (Davonte's dad) saying there is no truth to his scholarship being denied.
Also remember in an earlier presser when Urban introduced the coaches he said we had maybe 3-4 commits left? Theres been like 6 since then and now we still have 1 left.
I think we have enough spots for both. They were both supposed to commit Feb 10 or later anyways.
this report seems to have a lot of legs and I guess urban insisting that we have 81 on scholarship now would indicate that we can't take both neal and diggs so that may add to the fire. at the end of the day, both were not supposed to announce for a few days, so I am going to wait for those days to pass. I also don't want to oversign. If Urban thinks we have 81 then take 1 more (although I think you just take whoever sends you a letter first because these kids are too fickle).
This story has no legs, as it appears to have been refuted directly by Neal through Greg Biggens.
Terrible journalism strikes again because now Meyer is going to have to try and smooth this over with Neal incase he's lead to believe we would refuse a commitment. Mike Farrell has been tweeting about Neal all day and I'm fairly certain none of it has been true
Kinda odd that ZACH SMITH (OSU's receiver coach) just tweeted "Great day to be apart of Buckeyenation!! ONE SPOT STILL OPEN" ----- It's going to be a WR as that's what he stated during his presser earlier this afternoon (there's some symmetry here). Everybody's stuck on Neal's offer being pulled supposedly (if it happened, then it's def gotta be Diggs). Meyer knows what he's doing & he doesn't want to & WON'T OVERSIGN.
There is absolutely ZERO chance Urban slipping and saying "Neal" ( or was it "Neil" or "kneel") when talking about LBs, that it would result in any sort of violation. Just like Rick Santorum didn't say "black" people. You can't prove anything.
First of all, I am with each and every one of you who are not OK with oversigning. And secondly, to the rest of you . . . NO! What happens if there isn't any more attrition? Then what? Do we follow in Saban's footsteps and whistle up a medical casualty? Do we promise a player that he'll have a spot next season but in the meantime we'll help you find a job? Or do you want Meyer to wait until the last minute and then tell one poor soul, 'hey pack your bags, you're off the team'?
I for one don't want to sit here and hope that there's another casualty. It's bad enough that it might happen. But I don't wish that one anyone, because it means that their plans fell through. There's enough hardship and crap in this world to wish it on anyone else.
We've got plenty of talent on the team already and we've got plenty of talent coming in. I have complete faith that our coaching staff will find a way to use the talent they'll have. If for nothing else than the fact that one Walrus and QB coach are no longer on the team. And I would not want to get in the habit of making exceptions when it comes to recruiting, even if we weren't stocked with potential players in the right system or we didn't have the coaching staff to develope that talent. You cross that line once and it gets easier to cross in the future until it gets to the point were there is no line at all.
I've been happy that we had Meyer, but I've harbored some reservations based off of his Florida players' arrest records and my fear that we might become Alabama North. So far those fears have been unfounded. I think I can say that I'm finally proud to have him coach the Bucks if he did in fact tell Neal that he didn't have the room to bring him in.
@Seth4Bucks: Very eloquently put! And very valid points made!
That said, no offense meant, but I'd be fine with being Alabama North personally.
Alabama has had 2 championships in the last 3 years, and is dealing with much less NCAA violation nonsense than we are. I'd also argue that Saban is the best X's & O's coach in college football imo.

does but Neal won't end up there...
Let me say this with no disrespect meant towards you: As fans and alumni, we must NEVER allow our coach to become Saban-esque. The day we are similar to Alabama for reasons other than winning national championships is the day Urban Meyer loses all of my support.
So many conflicting stories out there, I'm not going to believe anything until I hear it from one of the coaches or a direct quote from Neal or Diggs themselves.
I just find it hard to believe that Urban would pull a scholly from Neal unless Diggs gave Urban a silent verbal and it just happened that Neal was the odd man out after Marcus and Dodson committed before him. I'm not calling anyone a liar but until I hear it from an official source I'm gonna hold off commenting further.
@LLJJGG - I think the Buckeyes have the facilities, tradition, alumni support, and name recognition to win a NC without stooping to oversigning and/or emulating Saban. What's more, with Meyer and the staff, the Buckeyes have the ability to reel in just about anyone they want AND get the most of those players when they arrive on campus.
I'm obviously biased towards Buckeyes, so my blind view is going to be that Diggs' tweet is him distancing himself from Florida fans since they have been long thought to be the favorite.
I am 100% on board with McDougal on this one! He's gonna be a buckeye ladies & gentlemen! He & Brax hit it off on his official to OSU. HE WILL BE A STAR IN THIS OFFENSIVE SCHEME! Any receiver who wants to be a playmaker wants a QB that's gonna get him the ball & to top it off, he wants to play for Urban Meyer & he knows he has a great opportunity to win a National Title in Columbus!
I really wish we had 2 spots open, because I think we have a serious shot at both Diggs and Neal. They both have a lot to gain as Buckeyes and would fit in perfectly with this team. Too bad we can only have 1.
Got this over at BuckeyePlanet in the Davonte Neal thread-- in all the time I've spent following Buckeye news, he's always had a very good pulse on the situation.

While people have posited several great theories in this thread, what The BPRT is hearing on our end is vastly different. I'm sure the whole story will be told at some point but suffice it to say OSU moved on...
It's unfortunate if we don't have room for both guys, but I'm thankful our coaches prioritized what is best for our student athletes by choosing not to oversign.
I think are all foolishly assuming that they both have already chosen OSU. Lets not get carried away - Diggs had a great time at Florida, and still has to visit his MD. Neal is still considering about 5 other schools. Neither has given any indication that they will be Buckeyes.
That being said I do think Meyer really wants Diggs maybe even more so than Neal. While Neal is a freakish athlete, he is not a prototypical slot guy and many people consider him a CB. Based on our current roster and 2012 recruiting class, we are more in need of a pure offenensive weapon than a player who might project more as a DB. This might explain why Meyer maybe told Neal he had to wait untill Diggs commited?
Have you heard any other reasons why we have dropped neal out ! Do we have stefon diggs locked up ! the scout.com website has something under it about the 4 horse man but I dont pay for their services.
Marc Givler of Rivals just tweeted that he has independently verified Mike Farrell's info on Neal and that it's true. In other words, apparently Neal did try to commit and was told that he was not going to be allowed to commit.
This is nuts. Either Diggs is a silent commit or Neal killed someone and Meyer found out.
Lol..no way man, I'd be famous like John Holmes or Lee Corso's baby arm by now if I did. We'll find out...everything points to OSU moving on without him.
2. OSU is putting in all their eggs into the Diggs basket and if they don't get him they will bank a scholarship for 2013
If not true....
1. OSU has a shot at either 1 of Neal and Diggs as there is only 1 more scholarship as of today
You pick what you want to believe right now. Either way this will be sorted out by February 10 or so which is a week from Friday so it's not like we have to wait long. Davonte Neal isn't being very vocal in terms of media right now. Stefon Diggs never is.
Can anyone (Alex or someone with knowledge of NCAA rules) verify whether UM saying Neal's name on TV today would actually be a violation and enough to persuade them not to go forward with Neal (for fear of sanctions related to that)?
I don't know a thing about something that specific, so I was wondering if someone could debunk that rumor once and for all?
It is a violation but I do not know how serious it is. If it's true that OSU did pull the committable offer, then I guarantee it was because of this slip. I am 99.999999% sure it has nothing to do with available scholarships
For what it's worth, the post from BuckeyePlanet that ThirdLegLouie quoted above seems to rule out any connection with Meyer saying "Neal" on TV. In particular, the author of that post said that what they heard was "vastly different" from the theories being posted on that thread, which include the theory about Meyer's slip up.
Look maybe Meyer asked Neal to postpone his commitment until he has another slot, because with the tweet by the reporter in Arizona saying the dad had no idea about Neal not being able to commit, why wouldn't Neal or his dad say something about that, maybe because we might get both Neal and Diggs, I wouldn't be surprised if another player was kicked off the team because of getting in trouble (for example Berry), like Alex said, we will see
There is no such thing as a silent commitment after signing day. Why would you wait at that point? You are doing anybody any favors by visiting Maryland after signing day if you are 100% sure that you aren't going to go there. I think that none of this is true. What Urban did was not a violation and seems highly unlikely that he pulled his offer because of that. My guess is that it isn't true and we are still in the running for either one and they will announce in a few days as planned.
I did not watch the presser, but if Urban mentioned his name it IS CLEARLY a violation. There's a reason sites like this and Rivals, Scout, 247 exist...if schools could mention when they get verbals, they would. Also, why do you think they don't publicize who is taking unofficial or official visits?? Because they can't. Any school official is prohibited to mention any recruits name until they physically receive the NLI
Meyer using just Neal isn't a violation of NCAA rules; it has to be a direct acknowledgment of a player. It was an ambiguous slip-up on his part and with our( the followers of this site) prior knowledge read into it as a direct referral to [davonte'] Neal. Not to compare, but on espnu's( I know :/) coverage today, one of the reporters said that lane kiffin said the needed to call "Nelson", but since he wasn't referring to a specific Nelson, he wasnt in violation of any rules. Just my thought on the situation.
Gotcha...like I said I never saw the incident. I was just going by what people on here have written that he said his name. If he just said the name "Neal" you are correct that is not a violation
You know what, if he did get his offer pulled today though he wanted to commit, it's his own problem. He's had plenty of time to pull the trigger. Everyone knows what Ohio State's situation is recruiting wise. Guys have been committing like crazy, and room has been running out for quite some time. It's shit or get off the pot at this point. Slow playing it and dragging it out longer is his own fault. Last week we didn't think Diggs was a possibility, now he is, if you are Neal you and you did want to commit today, you have no one to blame but yourself.
If he doesn't end up here, but another 5 star Diggs does, so be it. Good luck in the future, enjoy playing for DickRod or Kelly.
I have to agree with DWIZ0918 because saying the name Neal is no direct conection to anyone person and after Urban dealing with hundreds of names one slipup on a name isnt bad
Had he said Davonte Neal then you might have something maybe
Sounds to me like there is a lot of BS about the story right now. I don't want to sound too hard on the kid, I've just got no us for the speculation right now. I wanted the kid on this team, and I want Diggs. If there is room for both, c'mon aboard. If there's only room for one and Neal misses out because of Diggs, so be it, should've committed weeks ago. Both are great talents but If I only get one, I'm taking Diggs.
If OSU had to pull Neal's scholly because Urban mentioned his last name, not even his full name, and didn't say anything about him after, it is an absolute joke. At the PC Urban was listing off his LBs and couldn't remember Perry. Might have been a similar situation when he was on ESPNU. He had 25 kids sign today plus he was talking with a ton of 2013 kids as well. It was a slip of the tongue and nothing more than that.
If any of you are curious as to the NCAAs rule on talking about athletes prior to signing, I did find this...
13.10.2 Comments Before Signing. Before the signing of a prospective student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent or an institution’s written offer of admission and/or financial aid, a member institution may comment publicly only to the extent of confirming its recruitment of the prospective student-athlete. The institution may not comment generally about the prospective student-athlete’s ability or the contribution that the prospective student-athlete might make to the institution’s team; further, the institution is precluded from commenting in any manner as to the likelihood of the prospective student-athlete’s signing with that institution. Violations of this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete’s eligibility and are considered institutional violations per Constitution 2.8.1.
I wouldn't think that the slip Urban made would warrant the NCAA's interest in the slip as an infraction. At the same time, given our short leash, I would hardly think it out of the question to pull the offer as a precaution against it. Would landing Neal really be worth the risk? I don't think so. If at the very least it may have caused us to take the eggs in Neal's basket and put them into Diggs'. I'm fine with that, hell, I'm MORE than fine with that.
I posted earlier (don't remember what thread) but there is ZERO chance Urban slipping and saying a name that sounded like "Neal" (could have been "Neil" or maybe he was talking about his LBs taking a "kneel") could EVER result in violations of any sort. He did not mention Davonte Neal, not was he even discussing a position that Davonte Neal has ever been considered to play (Neal would need to beef up in a big way to play LB) so while I understand people's concerns in the post tat-gate era, there is absolutely nothing to worry about with the slip; further, no way the slip is in any way connected to Neal's offer allegedly being pulled.
This was all confirmed by a friend of mine who works in the Compliance department of an ACC school. When I posed the question and informed him of the concerns in Buckeye Nation, he laughed, FWIW.
I've never thought we would get either Neal or Diggs. I felt like we had a better chance with Neal, but RichRod in AZ has an offense where Neal can really shine. I've felt that that, combined with geographical closeness, would win out. Even if not AZ, OSU just seemed to far away to me.
Diggs to me is a Florida guy. I'd love for him to come to OSU but I've never thought it was more than an outside shot.
Yesterday my feelings were that we have a tremendous recruiting class and if either Diggs or Neal came it would be gravy on the biscuit. That hasn't changed with this story.
CPLUNK - You fail to mention that Neal is originally from Ohio, and was even a ballboy on the 02 NC team, so he has some serious ties to Ohio State. Also, Diggs was originally recruited under the old offensive scheme with Weiss (and also when they had Mick Mariotti, who Diggs loved and is now at OSU), so he's far from a "Florida guy" it would seem.
I happen to be a huge supporter of the side effect this unfortunate turn of events has had, that under no uncertain terms should highly touted recruits who want to be a part of the Buckeye family resort to slow playing the Bucks recruiting war ship. You might just get your ass left behind.
There are 14/15 ships available next season, you better send in the docs when you're supposed to lol.
@Alex, it seems that everyone who may be "in the know" isn't giving any clues, so I'm going to try a different approach. Hypothetically speaking, if Neal WAS in fact turned down when he tried to commit. And if it wasn't because Diggs was "100% in the bag," then what would be a reason for Meyer to turn him down? To add to this hypothetical, assume Meyer recruited this kid super hard, including reportedly promising to keep his scholarship offer intact even weeks after Signing Day. Also, assume that Meyer really really really wants a playmaker to be the final addition to this class, even going as far as reportedly offering the spot to Joel Caleb the day before signing day. GO.
All of the above possible hypotheticals for the Neal situation were discussed at Buckeyeplanet.com as well. A site administrator finally posted this about OSU and Neal:
"While people have posited several great theories in this thread, what The BPRT is hearing on our end is vastly different. I'm sure the whole story will be told at some point but suffice it to say OSU moved on"...
My guess is they both (Diggs, Neal) expressed strong interest in commiting to Ohio State. Urban knew they had limited scholarships left. There are a few current players that will be shown the door the next few days to open up at least one more scolly. In turn this will allow both to commit on the dates they both set in the future. To may things line up for me to think any other way. Neal has been very pro Ohio State since he was the ball boy and all through recruiting. Diggs visits Ohio State loves what he hears then gos on to eliminate the supposed favorite Florida. I am alittle biased but have to believe the moon and stars are lining up just enough that both end up in scarlet and grey. I forgot about the Meyer slip up as well where he said "we have Neal" This is just my opinion and until I hear different then that is what I am going to believe.
@BuckeyeinNYC: If the rumor is true AND Diggs isn't 100%, my theory is they are going all-in on Diggs and if they get him, great, if not, they bank 1 extra scholly for next year
Thanks Alex. That is the most sensical explanation. I'm sure it's a very educated guess on their end, and they have good reason to believe Diggs will be in. But banking an extra scholly for next year isn't necessarily a bad idea.
Alex, Does Diggs go to a more prestigious football high school than Neal? Since they're close in rankings is it maybe better for Ohio State to lay the groundwork for more recruits from Diggs' high school in the future than Neal's?
I'm probably looking too far for the right answer with this whole Neal thing...
Yes, Diggs said the visit went great there are also reports that he and Braxton really hit it off. Previously mentioned on this site his Mom also really liked the visit and she is the apparent decision maker or "influencer."
I'm guessing it probably collaborates his story that Neal "tried to commit and was denied"....still not sure what's going on, but I know OSU is definitely in it for Diggs
Although Neal is a stud in his own right if we only get one I hope its Diggs. After watching his senior film that Alex posted in a separate topic forum, Diggs is better than Neal despite what espn says. Even if they are equal in terms of speed, quickness, etc.. Diggs is a lot more physical. That being said getting either one would be fantastic, however, if we denied Neal and don't get Diggs it would be a real blunder. I am hoping that Meyer asked Neal to sit for a little while before committing so they can try to work out the numbers so there is potentially room for both of them. Which would make some sense, because if Neal had committed and we were all full there is no promise that there would be a spot for Diggs and he might go elsewhere even if he wanted to come to Ohio State. But admittedly thats just wishful thinking, I guess all we can do at this point is wait until next week.
There are no concrete details of what went wrong at the in-home visit but it was not a success and OSU took themselves out of the running for Neal at that point. No information on whether or not it was the father or Davonte himself that OSU had an issue with. Also, Neal wanted to commit after the in- home and OSU said no thank you. Allegedly, thisi is all coming from an inside source on the OSU side of things.
Personally, I think this is pretty close to what happens. There are TOO many reports indepently claiming to have verified that Neal is either not looking at OSU or OSU is not looking at Neal.
If the source is right about us pulling out of the Neal race (when it seems that we would have won it, and a potential game-changing athlete), you really have to trust Meyer's instinct on this one. I suppose it's all we really CAN do. Still stings though, especially if we don't land Diggs.
I remember reading an article in the BluenGold (ND site) where Mr. Neal was quoted as saying that on the in home visit "Urban pushed really, really hard to get him to commit, but we told him no".
If this new story is true - Mr Neal is a real piece of work and it doesn't surprise me they won't be coming to OSU.
Also, (and maybe this is a stretch) but wasn't it just after this visit that Alex was lied to by Neal's friend (Deckerman?) to try and screw with OSU? They said it was a joke. Maybe they did know then already that this wasn't happening. Alex may have a thought on this...
Alex you said "we're definitely in it for Diggs" & that's GREAT to hear. Obviously you have sources close to that recruitment. My question to you is have you or are you going to try & talk to Diggs & get his take & is he still going to take his official to Maryland on the 10th? If he does, then obviously he's not deciding until I'd think the middle of the month (could be wrong, but this is a guess). What are the odds (percentage wise) in your mind we land him. I think he knows he can be a star in the offensive scheme & do a lot of great things here. If you could shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks Alex
Obviously, something happened with Neal, or his father, that turned the staff completely off. I don't care much about the details. The kid may be good and could be the dad. Recent articles mention he just re-entered the scene.
This one is odd and I'm glad we moved on. Feel bad for the kid tho, if he wanted in.
I hope these rumors about Neal arent true. Both Diggs and Neal are special players but Neal seems to have a extra gear when it comes to pure speed! Perfect fit for this team...
I would LOVE to talk to Stefon directly, but I'm shooting blanks right now....Stefon seems to be in a little bit of a "down low" mode, while he figures out if he is going to visit UMD or just make a decision...
I do know his date as of today is February 10 for an announcement....
I'm a little surprised by how many people are caught up Neal and Diggs (not just here but on other boards, social media, etc.). This team already has kids who can be serious playmakers. From all the talk, Neal is out- best of luck to him wherever he goes- There's no reason to get caught up lamenting the loss of Neal.
I would like to see Diggs commit to tOSU simply because of the message it sends to college football- "Watch the F out for the Buckeye train" If we get Diggs, it will mean Urban was in office for 2 months and got 2 top 10 kids!!! Regardless of how this all transpires, I'm more than happy with how this class turned out.
I hear you 3rdLegLouie, but if you take a close look at our recruiting class we do lack a complete burner. And we lacked one all season, too, which is why our WR production was so terrible. I love guys like Epitropolous and Southward and co. but it would be nice to get a legit down the field threat / slot receiver with speed.
I think the only thing that keeps me happy is that even if we strike out on Diggs this season, there's always Jalin Marshall next season. Which ain't bad.
While there isn't a Teddy Ginn in this class, IMO Southward is much more fast/explosive than given credit for. I wish I could find a better quality highlight tape but this is all I've been working with: http://vimeo.com/30317915
Also, in Urban's press conference yesterday, he talked about getting one of those 10.4 100m guys. Well, Devin Smith was a 10.5 100m guy in HS and is currently running track for tOSU. ( http://www.cantonrep.com/archive/x724656105/Massillons-Devin-Smith-break... ) Urban's made the comment several times about not really knowing what he has yet, which applies even more to Smith because his time is divided with another sport.
Not to split hairs, because I get your point about not having a burner all season, but we didn't have a passing game all season! LOL I blame our lack of offensive production 100% on scheme, not personnel. I think every WR/TW was criminally underused in our offensive schemes last year and D.Smith is one that I'm looking for to have a huge season next year.
My gut is that OSU lands Diggs but you're absolutely right, if not, we get Marshall and hopefully, R. Foster next year!
UM: Yeah, we're not happy where we're at with our speed and skill on offense. I don't know what we have. I saw on film and looked at the stats, and you would say from statistical analysis and just evaluation that we're not very good at all. But I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens in spring practice and evaluate them in the offseason, which starts Monday. But we're not where we need to be, by a long shot.
Everything im reading on other sites and hearing from people is that it was a Jordan Diamond part 2. Urban had a in home with Neal. He didnt like what Neal was about and basically stopped recruiting him. Everything im hearing is that his dad was a major factor in Urban's decision.
I am very greatful in finding a ohio state board with educated fans. Most of the boards run out the educated fans with all of the assanine ones. My feeling is like Alex we will find out on Feb 10th im not gonna speculate i would love to have either one of them if they are comitted to the team and put the team first.
Wasnt there something posted on here today that said some people at OSU said they didnt like something about Neal. Im just trying to figure out what that was about maybe he has some character issues. Or maybe they were talking about his dad because that is all head case.
@BuckeyeFreak Welcome home! I think 11W does a good job of living up to their stated purpose: 11W aims to be the smartest sports bar you and several thousand of your closest fellow Buckeyes have ever been to. Your friendly editors will provide content and an environment to talk OSU sports in a mature and intelligent manner.
Interesting ESPN article on Neal- think it indirectly gives some very interesting information:
"The Sooners call to make sure Neal received their letter of intent, one of three letters of intent sitting on Neal's kitchen table, along with those from Notre Dame and North Carolina. The Razorbacks let Neal know they'll be sending out his letter of intent later in the week and would be thrilled if he just wants to sign now and end the process early."
Notice that an LOI from The Ohio State is conspicuously not on the table. Definitely looking like the Rivals guys had this one pegged.
Thirdleglouie: so how can ESPiN run that story with a straight face (so to speak)? Did they do a full retraction on the NLOID scrolls that Neal had wanted to commit to Ohio State but that the offer had been withdrawn? ESPiN would probably defend themselves by saying, we didn't originate the story, it was being disseminated on twitter. Okay, but if the entertainment source ESPiN intends to retain some small shred of journalistic reputation, they can't just print everything that runs on twitter, without even the slightest cross/fact-checking, can they?
Otherwise, why shouldn't we read the article you linked above as just another entertainment piece, possibly fabricated to attract readers?
"I want to take my time with the process and give every school an equal opportunity."
If there is anything that is telling about the article, it is none other that this quote by young Mr. Neal in my opinion. Words mean something, and Mr. Neal isn't the one providing the opportunity. He should be providing them equal consideration.
Maybe that's a little harsh for an eighteen yr old kid, maybe that's what he meant, but as it stands on it's own merit it wreeks of entitlement. We don't need those types, nobody does. Maybe this came through in the in home I dunno.
@Run_Fido-- Read the article I linked as you will. I'm not going to post here and defend their journalistic integrity -- just thought the fact that the LOIs on the table indirectly shed some light on the story.
Thirdleglouie: First, it's not really a matter of interpretation. The recent article you linked, which partly describes the "day in the life" of Neal's NLOID simply doesn't line up, factually, with their "breaking news" flashes from yesterday. I didn't know if they had tried to walk back those reports from yesterday, or if they had just moved on . . . "nothing to see here, folks."
Second, my skepticism toward ESPiN was in no way a slight toward you (by linking the story), if that's what you were thinking (I can't really "read" your tone).
"Davonte Neal (2012 ATH, ESPN 5*) scheduled his decision for this morning at his former elementary school. The elementary school pulled out all of the stops, including taking 600 kids out of classes to come witness the announcement. The kids were encouraged to chant things like "we're just like Davonte!" The news, of course, was being streamed by at least one state-wide news outlet.
Neal didn't show up to his decision. The kids waited for over an hour before the principal finally disbanded the assembly. Word has come from twitter that Davonte and his Dad were arguing over his decision (it's late February.) this morning. His father wanted him to go to Notre Dame, but Neal wanted to go to Arizona. Neal did not call to cancel."
if true, i feel sorry how the dad is not letting his kid decide what his best for himself. The best way to help kids grow is giving the the freedom of choosing things on their own.... I just dont like that an argument ensued on something of such a grand scale, if it is true, of course...
Isn't his dad the main reason this kid was denied at OSU? Dad seems like a real piece of work. Only concerned bout himself and not what is for his sons best interest.
To put a possible spin on this, is the dad selfish if he is trying to get his kid a Notre Dame education? Or trying to save his kid from the terrors of Rich Rod?
That probably isn't what's going on, but hey worth a shot.
I have to say if he doesn't know where he wants to go he shouldn't announce. He definitely should have notified his elementary school. Kid has a lot of growing up to do and so does his father apparently.
“All we know is there was a family emergency and they are very emotional and very torn. . . They wanted to be here. I know it meant a lot to Davonte. This was his special day.”
FWIW i read on the WWL that his father went to Bennie and asked him for money for a weight training school, then Beanie said no & warned Fickell of the conversation. Fickell told Urban and the offer was pulled right then.
Mike Farrell seemed to be wrong a few times but when it came down to the announcement he was right. But this kid does not seem like a good kid. EX: reports of him smoking on his trip to osu, he left all of those kids waiting and now cam newton all over again?!Urban please say no!

Do we have enough ships for Neal and Diggs
hope its true!
wow --- that would be great...either 1 would be great ---- but both!?! --- oh yeah, you have room, you make room when it's two elite guys. These are the 2 best athletes in the country when it comes to fitting in to the Urban Offense.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Kind of hard to get a read on that slip (Davonte Neal comment)....anyone have any insight?
Shendig
ND just lost one of their WR recruits to ?Houston? (weird) that will only ramp up their sell on Neal. Hopefully it won't be enough to sway him...
We'll never know if the "Neal" drop was intentional or not. Just pick a side, I suppose. I'll take it as a slip from a guy who's got Neal on the mind while juggling a new team, 25 new recruits, and dozens more for 2013.
Class of 2008
Chances are he won't sign "dozens" more for 2013. It'll be a pretty small class, but packed with star power for that same reason. Probably 15-18.
Yeah we know we aren't going to sign dozens in '13 but Urbz is recruiting dozens of guys for '13 and has them on his mind which was the point.
Scott, you were very clear. I knew exactly what you were saying.
@RecruitBuck and NorthBrook: Sorry for not being clear. What I meant was a new team, 25 new recruits, and dozens of potential recruits for 2013.
Class of 2008
Neal and Diggs would put this class up there with the Boston, Wiley, Katzenmoyer, Berry, Diggs etc.
Foster, Woodard, J. Smith, S. Gibson (now officially not favoring Auburn), etc. :) 2013!
Wait, what? Diggs?
Any idea what this means about Neal GSW?
If this is true, OSU must be banking on Diggs or know that they got him (silent commit maybe??)
Has to mean that Urb & co. found something out about Neal that made this a dealbreaker. Because even if we had Diggs in the bag, we'd still take Neal, no?
not necessarily BuckeyeinNYC. Urban said during the presser that we only have room for one more.
If Urban was quite sure the number was 81 and wouldn't drop any further, it would seem they are very sure on 1 left (Diggs).
- Respect the Rivalry -
Yeah room for one more, would love to have both but realistically can only have one and Diggs is the better athlete imo
Urban did say the offense is missing a game changer speed wise aka Neal or Diggs. If this is indeed true then I would think that Diggs would be coming to OSU.
Jaamal Berry and T.Y. Williams I think are gone
Why would TY be gone?
- Respect the Rivalry -
I don't think Farrell is eluding to a problem with Neal not wanting to go to Ohio State, I think it means Ohio State not having a commitable offer for Neal anymore. So, to Fail, I don't think it's just Farrell trying to cover his rear end for possibly missing a prediction.
Just my gut feeling, no sources. Williams violated a team rule before the Gator Bowl and was left in CBus.
Also heard Meyer say "Perkins, Neal,...."
Whoops, LOL!
Definite awesome sauce!
BlockONation - Ohio State Football Lives Here™
If we pulled off Neal, my only theory is that Diggs told Meyer he is in
WOW SANCTIONS REALLY HURTING NOW. Could have had Diggs and Neal
- Respect the Rivalry -
I'm no insider, but I would have to agree. Neal fits the role of exactly what Urban said he needed. The only way Urban could turn that down is if someone fit that niche even better (Diggs)
Should over sign...surely someone will leave and open up a spot.
Agree - deffinetly oversign in this situation.
- Respect the Rivalry -
T.Y. Williams has also complained on Twitter about his lack of playing time or looks when he was on the field....Pretty sure I remember him even saying after a game last season (and I'm paraphrasing here) "if they don't have use for a 6-6 WR here, maybe I need to go somewhere that they do..."
BlockONation - Ohio State Football Lives Here™
Someone fill me in: who would we want more? Who's the better prospect? I never figured that out.
I guess I'm looking at you Alex haha
BlockONation - Ohio State Football Lives Here™
I agree Bucks. No oversigning in any situation, regardless of talent.
"Who cares? Go Bucks." - Aaron Untch
The main issue now is whether we have 1 scholarship left (like Urban thought), in which case the Bucks are holding out for a different player or whether we have 0 scholarships left.
this is why i hate twitter. until i hear it from a good source, its a non-story to me
If anything I feel bad for the kid.
Agree with everything you have said Pitt. Buckeye.
Okay...so who would be a better deep threat? The one who could "S T R e T C H the field more effectively!!

alex,
You really think urban turned down devonte neal ! Why cant he take in stefon diggs and devonte neal ! There will be more attrirtion
Also, keep in mind that there may be another person who decides he wants to go elsewhere if this is true about Neal. Could easily still happen. Bottom line though is that I'm very happy with this class & trust that Urban & staff know what their doing with this 1 open spot.
Per Rivals:
Neal at # 17 at his position and 101
overall.
Diggs at #2 at his position and 8
overall.
Ok I'm reaaalllyyyy confused as too why we wouldn't take Neal....unless Diggs is a absolute LOCK.....but 18 year olds are soooo fickle.....why not take Neal hope for Diggs because now if Diggs doesn't committ what do we do then???
Listen to Alex on the Fan in Cleveland. Maybe he'll have something.

IF Urban truly passes up on the oppurtunity to oversign and get BOTH Neal and Diggs, then I think I will be close to completely sold on this guy as our head coach. For those of you who said we should oversign, get out of here. That's not what The Ohio State University is about.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
Question for anyone (and I apologize in advance if it's ridiculous)
It was obvious Urban mentioned the name "Neal" on TV today. Its my understanding that can be a violation if he was mentioned prior to a LOI.
Is there anyway because of that we had to turn him down (considering we are on probation already)?
It just makes no sense to voluntarily turn him down...
@Buckinin
ESPN has Neal at 8 overall and Diggs at 13 overall. These rankings are all over the place.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
Damn, hope this works out. Gotta trust Meyer but I would be pretty dissapointed if we passed on Neal and then didn't get Diggs.
Makes me wonder why we were going so hard after a 5th linebacker (Marcus) in this class if we had such a good shot with Neal and Diggs.
In regards to the different recruiting services I would definitely say Rivals/247 >>> Scout/ESPN. Scout hands out the fifth star like its candy, and ESPN has a massive contract with the SEC and hosts an All American game--they're going to make their products look the best.
Any chance Meyer saw a sprinkle of diva in Neal by him maybe putting him off?

Possible that Neal tried to commit and Urban told him to hold off and see how the attrition sorts itself out and he can commit at a later date?
All very confusing.
Story of Neal trying to commit being refuted.
"@PDBuckeyes Per Greg Biggens at ESPN.: "Lol, I promise he didn't, he's literally sitting right across from me"
I don't believe this story are you saying we hAve room for Caleb but not Neal ??? The same guy who's name urban slipped up and said??? I don't buy it
Hardly home but always reppin

Shendig
Alex, genestarwind, do either of you know whats actually going on I cant imagine we couldn't find room for both of these guys without over signing?

I'm going to side with Farrell on this, he's one of the most credible guys there are.
Honestly no idea....my head is spinning
What Partisan says ......
I'm not worried about what anyone says the numbers are if both committed today they would both be Buckeyes.... OSu will figure out the numbers.
real question is if we get 0, 1/1 or 2
I don't believe the sudden commitment its smells like rotten rodriquez rearing his ugly head... trying to sell some snow to an eskimo...

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
There is absolutely ZERO chance Urban slipping and saying "Neal" ( or was it "Neil" or "kneel") when talking about LBs, that it would result in any sort of violation. Just like Rick Santorum didn't say "black" people. You can't prove anything.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
Agree seth4, and so what if we don't EVEN fill the spot...we're good already. I don't have any desire to compromise integrity in oversigning players.
I can only think of 3 things that could possibly explain this:
1) Diggs is a silent commit and commited on his visit this weekend; it was first come first serve and Diggs took advantage of it
2) Something happened with Neal that we didn't like and we cooled off on him (sort of like Diamond)
3) The report is false
@Seth4Bucks: Very eloquently put! And very valid points made!
That said, no offense meant, but I'd be fine with being Alabama North personally.
Alabama has had 2 championships in the last 3 years, and is dealing with much less NCAA violation nonsense than we are. I'd also argue that Saban is the best X's & O's coach in college football imo.

^This. +1
Thank you Vested and LLJJGG :-)
@JAKEBUCKEYE: That's perfectly fair.
@HAYZE: I feel like I need to go back to school for a PhD in Twitter Interpretation Studies after the last couple weeks of this recruiting season!
What does the Diggs tweet even mean? Anyone with any credible info out there?
Diggs tweet just saying to fan bases if I dont pick your school dont be dumb and rage at me.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Shendig
I really wish we had 2 spots open, because I think we have a serious shot at both Diggs and Neal. They both have a lot to gain as Buckeyes and would fit in perfectly with this team. Too bad we can only have 1.
Got this over at BuckeyePlanet in the Davonte Neal thread-- in all the time I've spent following Buckeye news, he's always had a very good pulse on the situation.

While people have posited several great theories in this thread, what The BPRT is hearing on our end is vastly different. I'm sure the whole story will be told at some point but suffice it to say OSU moved on...
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
It's unfortunate if we don't have room for both guys, but I'm thankful our coaches prioritized what is best for our student athletes by choosing not to oversign.
Class of 2008
Wait for it.....
:)
Who really knows
- Respect the Rivalry -
Hmmm, perhaps a Derrick Morris situation?!??!?!
Now apparently there are rumors that it has to do with the whole Urban slipping up and saying Neal while on ESPN.
If that's true than I give up. That would be absolutely ludacris.
Not sure I quite believe it but anythings possible with the NCAA
Key word there is rumor lol, highly doubt thats true.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
It's Diggs or bust at this point my fellow bucnkuts...diggs or bust
- Respect the Rivalry -
This class is already an amazing class, Diggs or Neal would just be icing on the cake.... it is not diggs or bust lol
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
alex,
Have you heard any other reasons why we have dropped neal out ! Do we have stefon diggs locked up ! the scout.com website has something under it about the 4 horse man but I dont pay for their services.
google 4 horsemen, you'll find that article is probably not concerning Neal.
Vestedinterest,
Do you know what caused us to drop neal !
@james
Lol..no way man, I'd be famous like John Holmes or Lee Corso's baby arm by now if I did. We'll find out...everything points to OSU moving on without him.
If true....
1. Diggs committed
I've got a feeling that what's really going on is much more shady than what's being speculated here. Just my gut, and I hope I'm wrong.
@Alex and others:
Alex,
It wasnt because meyer accidentally mention his name in the interview on ESPN right ?
If those 3 choices you think it could be which one do you think it most likely is ?
I can see meyer not taking him his talents are off the charts. I think the only way he doesnt take him if he has a silent verbal from diggs !
Unless Mom wants you to stay close to home and take a visit to Maryland...or Zona or wherever...
Maybe he feels he needs to make the visit in his home state??
Rdubs
Agree BTALBERT
He waited to long, he was more worried about doing a tv show for espn then worrying about his recruiting visits.
I have to agree with DWIZ0918 because saying the name Neal is no direct conection to anyone person and after Urban dealing with hundreds of names one slipup on a name isnt bad
Had he said Davonte Neal then you might have something maybe
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Sounds to me like there is a lot of BS about the story right now.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
From one of the administrators at BuckeyePlanet: "Neal is gone. For none of the reasons mentioned. Move on... focus on Diggs, who is by no means a lock."
I am 100% certain we will know later this month.
Neal's father comments on yesterday's rumor.

Interesting ......
Sox33OSU- fair points for sure. I'd love to have either, but I'd consider it a pleasant surprise.
With or without them, I can't wait to watch the team this year. I wish the season started sooner!
Again, this is why I hate Twitter.
What Meyer did was not a violation?
Also, I'm not sure I 100% believe Neal's father, but I think Farrell has things a little off too.....
I have a weird feeling Stefon Diggs ends up in this class....just a guess :)
"Boobie twistin Moochicken fans since 1976"
@BuckeyeinNYC: If the rumor is true AND Diggs isn't 100%, my theory is they are going all-in on Diggs and if they get him, great, if not, they bank 1 extra scholly for next year
There's no way what Meyer said regarding Neal would jeopardize his offer.
Thanks Alex. That is the most sensical explanation. I'm sure it's a very educated guess on their end, and they have good reason to believe Diggs will be in. But banking an extra scholly for next year isn't necessarily a bad idea.
@Vested That's a good way to look at the situation. Even if you're the best, you better hurry. Get on the train or get out of the way.
Class of 2008
Alex, Does Diggs go to a more prestigious football high school than Neal? Since they're close in rankings is it maybe better for Ohio State to lay the groundwork for more recruits from Diggs' high school in the future than Neal's?
I'm probably looking too far for the right answer with this whole Neal thing...
Class of 2008
Has diggs even said how his visit went?
Yes, Diggs said the visit went great there are also reports that he and Braxton really hit it off. Previously mentioned on this site his Mom also really liked the visit and she is the apparent decision maker or "influencer."
I would say Diggs plays against better competition than Neal.....and yes Olney Good Counsel has more studs year in and year out than Chaparral
-Also, Diggs visit went great
Farrell (from Rivals) just tweeted that another Buckeye site "nailed" the Neal story.
Here's the text of the tweet from @rivalsmike:
Hopefully someone who's a member there can give us here a synopsis.
It's in the forum at OSU's rivals page...I saw the tweet too. Anybody with a membership care to enlighten us?
Here's a synopsis:
There are no concrete details of what went wrong at the in-home visit but it was not a success and OSU took themselves out of the running for Neal at that point. No information on whether or not it was the father or Davonte himself that OSU had an issue with. Also, Neal wanted to commit after the in- home and OSU said no thank you. Allegedly, thisi is all coming from an inside source on the OSU side of things.
Personally, I think this is pretty close to what happens. There are TOO many reports indepently claiming to have verified that Neal is either not looking at OSU or OSU is not looking at Neal.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
Thanks for that ThirdLegLouie.
Thirdleg - is this coming from the Rivals thread that was noted above by Anononym?
Well, if true, it seems Diggs is definitely not a "lock". Hope Coach Meyer can work his magic!
Clearly a pay-for-play :)
If the source is right about us pulling out of the Neal race (when it seems that we would have won it, and a potential game-changing athlete), you really have to trust Meyer's instinct on this one. I suppose it's all we really CAN do. Still stings though, especially if we don't land Diggs.
Dad sounds like he was the problem. Reminds me a little bit of the Henderson situation.
Unfortunate but have to do what's best for the team.
Ever since Cecil, I've been leary of dad's talking too much...
3rdLegLouie's post makes it seems like Meyer saw/heard something he didn't like from the Neal camp....apparently same thing happened with Diamond.....
I have heard Dad is a bit of a problem in this situation.....
If true, glad we stayed away....either get Diggs or bank one for 2013
Well...Urban has seen and dealt with overbearing parents in the past so if its that, it must be pretty bad!
Seantrel Henderson part 2.
Hope we get Diggs!
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
If true, good for Coach Meyer. #UrbanRenewal
Thanks Alex
Shendig
Obviously, something happened with Neal, or his father, that turned the staff completely off. I don't care much about the details. The kid may be good and could be the dad. Recent articles mention he just re-entered the scene.
This one is odd and I'm glad we moved on. Feel bad for the kid tho, if he wanted in.
Better we didn't want/get him. I trust the staff.
Let the man be in down low mode all he wants. It's a big decision, and his alone to make. Us spoiled hand wringers can wait.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
Urbans quote on this:
Yep. I'm hearing his dad didn't make the best impression either.
Sucks for the kid if he really wanted to be a Buckeye but his dad blew that chance for him.
Regardless, he's out of the picture and Diggs is our main and only target.
Go get 'em UFM!
I am very greatful in finding a ohio state board with educated fans. Most of the boards run out the educated fans with all of the assanine ones. My feeling is like Alex we will find out on Feb 10th im not gonna speculate i would love to have either one of them if they are comitted to the team and put the team first.
Michigan Sucks!
Wasnt there something posted on here today that said some people at OSU said they didnt like something about Neal. Im just trying to figure out what that was about maybe he has some character issues. Or maybe they were talking about his dad because that is all head case.
I hope that Mr Neal isnt trying to play the Mr Newton card

Interesting ESPN article on Neal- think it indirectly gives some very interesting information:
"The Sooners call to make sure Neal received their letter of intent, one of three letters of intent sitting on Neal's kitchen table, along with those from Notre Dame and North Carolina. The Razorbacks let Neal know they'll be sending out his letter of intent later in the week and would be thrilled if he just wants to sign now and end the process early."
Notice that an LOI from The Ohio State is conspicuously not on the table. Definitely looking like the Rivals guys had this one pegged.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
:)
Teddy... Why are you always smiling? :)
Why not always smile? :)
@Fido- no slight taken or intended. Just trying to think about all of ESPN's inconsistencies in their reporting is making my head hurt :)

Saw this posted on MGoBlog:
Glad we missed on him, Ray Smalls dad was bad enough.
I hope he doesn't pick ND, Domers tears make for much greener grass.
To put a possible spin on this, is the dad selfish if he is trying to get his kid a Notre Dame education? Or trying to save his kid from the terrors of Rich Rod?
That probably isn't what's going on, but hey worth a shot.
Either way, holding an elementary school hostage with about 600 students and porching them without a call is, as they say, a douche move.
100% agree vested, that's not right.
ESPN article on his no-show.
Davonte Neal Skips own signing announcement, leaves 600 elementary school kids in the wind.
Nice....
I suppose there could've been a family emergency or something, but Urbs made the right call passing on this kid.

I have to say if he doesn't know where he wants to go he shouldn't announce. He definitely should have notified his elementary school. Kid has a lot of growing up to do and so does his father apparently.
vacuuming sucks
A pretty different take on what happened from the Arizona Daily Wildcat:
Young Neal wants to go AZ, dad wants ND = family emergency...
FWIW i read on the WWL that his father went to Bennie and asked him for money for a weight training school, then Beanie said no & warned Fickell of the conversation. Fickell told Urban and the offer was pulled right then.
By the way, It was from a comment, not a blogger.
Landon Collins all over again...
Mike Farrell seemed to be wrong a few times but when it came down to the announcement he was right. But this kid does not seem like a good kid. EX: reports of him smoking on his trip to osu, he left all of those kids waiting and now cam newton all over again?!Urban please say no!

Committed to Notre Dame...per the ESPN text I just got.
Yeah, all the Domers of course have forgiven his transgressions of the day already, without reservation.
