Welcome to the Skull Session.

The Brotherhood is real.

Have a good Wednesday.

“TREVEYON IS FAST, FAST.” One week after Jim Schwartz called Denzel Ward “the best corner I’ve had in 30 years,” another veteran NFL coached touted a former Ohio State star as one of the best he’s been around.

In a Monday press conference following the New England Patriots' 48-18 preseason win over the Washington Commanders, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels described TreVeyon Henderson as one of the fastest, if not the fastest, running back he’s ever coached across 26 years in the profession, including 18 years with the Patriots.

“I think everyone sees TreVeyon the same way,” McDaniels said. “He’s a tremendous kid. Awesome individual, really hard worker. Smart kid. Can process a lot of information, which allows you as a coach to use him in the ways he should be used. He’s explosive. I think we all saw the other night, tough, physical. I don’t have many negatives to say about Trey. But excited to coach him —”

Considering Henderson made a 100-yard house call on his first NFL touch, I don’t doubt McDaniels is excited to coach him!

“... We’ve had some really good players with skill sets that are somewhat like his, maybe no one as fast,” McDaniels continued. “(Shane) Vereen was probably the fastest — him and Danny Woodhead were fast — but TreVeyon is fast, fast. Excited to be with him.”

So, Henderson is fast.

He’s so fast he makes fast people look… not fast.

Oh, and he’s a “matchup nightmare,” Patriots linebackers coach Zak Kuhr told Yahoo Sports this week.

“He’s at times a matchup nightmare against what they call the combo skill, the big skill, which is the linebackers and the safeties, because he can run some pretty good routes as a running back, but he’s explosive,” Kuhr said. “It’s tough down when you go against him isolated, one on one.”

UNPROBLEMATIC KING JULIAN. Have you all seen the news about John Mateer?

On Monday, the Oklahoma quarterback had screenshots of his Venmo transactions titled “sports gambling” surface on social media. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Tuesday morning that Mateer denied to school officials that he’s ever gambled on college athletics.

“The allegations that I once participated in sports gambling are false,” Mateer posted on X Tuesday afternoon. “My previous Venmo descriptions did not accurately portray the transactions in question but were instead inside jokes between me and my friends. I have never bet on sports. I understand the seriousness of the matter, but recognize that, taken out of context, those Venmo descriptions suggest otherwise. I can assure my teammates, coaches and officials at the NCAA that I have not engaged in any sports gambling.”

The screenshots of Mateer’s Venmo transactions show he included “sports gambling” in memos for transactions on Nov. 20, 2022, while he was still a quarterback at Washington State. Both transactions were made to a Venmo account for Richard Roaten, which appears to be former Cougars lineman Landon Roaten, as listed on Washington State’s roster for the 2022 season.

Not great, Bob!

What is great, however, is Julian Sayin’s Venmo transaction history, which includes a payment to Jennifer for a ticket to see Minions: The Rise of Gru in 2022.

That’s my quarterback.

“THIS HAS BEEN A WEIRD FALL CAMP.” After Bowling Green introduced Eddie George as its next head football coach, the former Ohio State running back and Heisman Trophy winner stated three goals for the Falcons to accomplish annually during his tenure: “Win the battle of I-75, win the MAC and then go play for a national championship.”

Whether or not George can achieve all of those goals at Bowling Green is debatable, especially the “play for a national championship” one. But don’t tell George that — and don’t tell his players, either.

I learned this week that Bowling Green’s preseason camp has been hard. How hard? On Monday, senior wide receiver Finn Hogan posted on TikTok that the team purchased a Persian cat named Pudge to help relieve some of the stress George has caused with a series of intense practices.

“This has been a weird fall camp,” Hogan captioned his video.

No kidding.

Entering the 2025 season, Bowling Green’s +1000 odds to win the MAC rank fifth behind Toledo (+225), Ohio (+375), Buffalo (+400) and Miami (+700). The Falcons’ last MAC championship came in 2015, when Dino Babers led the program to a 10-3 record and 7-1 mark in the conference.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING. After checking in as the No. 3 team in the preseason AP Poll, Ohio State extended its nation-leading streak of preseason AP Poll appearances to 37 years, which is 11 years longer than any program in the country and the longest in AP Poll history.
