Ohio State women’s basketball finished its regular season with a record-breaking performance against a top-15 team.

The Buckeyes broke their single-game school record for 3-pointers in a game as Ohio State made 18 of 32 3-point shot attempts on their way to a 87-68 win over No. 15 Michigan State in East Lansing.

After losing all of their last three games against ranked opponents, the Buckeyes (24-6, 13-5) emphatically snapped that skid on Sunday to finish the regular season on a high note. The Buckeyes led the game by as many as 30 points in the first half before ultimately winning the game by 19.

Jaloni Cambridge led the Buckeyes with 33 points, including a career-high seven made 3-pointers. Chance Gray also made seven 3-pointers to score 21 points. Kennedy Cambridge scored 10 points and made five steals, breaking Ohio State’s single-season record for steals (120) in the process. Elsa Lemmilä had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and also made three blocks, while Ava Watson hit a trio of threes for nine points.

Ohio State seized quick control of Sunday’s game as Jaloni Cambridge and Watson combined for 14 points – including two threes by each player – in an early 14-3 run that gave the Buckeyes an 18-5 lead. The Buckeyes finished the first quarter with a 23-9 lead after Gray hit Ohio State’s fifth three of the quarter, a quarter in which Michigan State made just two of 14 shots from the field.

The Buckeyes continued their domination into the second quarter, starting the second period on a 20-5 run that included four more threes – two by Jaloni Cambridge, one by Bryn Martin and one by Gray – to balloon their lead to 29 points. Another pair of threes by Gray pushed Ohio State’s lead to 49-19 late before Michigan State ended the first half on a 7-0 run.

After Jaloni Cambridge started the second half with a layup, Michigan State went on another 7-0 run to cut Ohio State’s lead to 18. Jaloni Cambridge stopped the run with her fifth three of the game, then hit another three just over a minute later to push Ohio State’s lead to 57-35. After Gray and Michigan State’s Rashunda Jones traded threes, the Spartans finished the third quarter on a 10-2 run to cut the Buckeyes’ lead to 14.

Gray started the fourth quarter with her fifth three of the game. Another pair of threes by Cambridge and Gray made it a 71-52 game with 6:22 to play. The Buckeyes broke the school record with 4:09 to play when Gray made a three that extended Ohio State’s lead to 83-60, and the Buckeyes cruised to a decisive victory from there.

Ohio State’s previous record for made 3-pointers in a game was 17, a mark the Buckeyes hit in games against Penn State in 2010 and again earlier this year.

Ohio State secured a top-five seed in the Big Ten Tournament with Sunday’s victory. The Buckeyes will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament if Minnesota beats Illinois on Sunday (2 p.m., Big Ten Network). Ohio State would climb to the No. 4 seed and receive a double bye if Illinois beats Minnesota.

If Ohio State is the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, the Buckeyes will play a second-round game in Indianapolis at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday. If the Buckeyes move up to the No. 4 seed, they‘ll receive a double bye into the quarterfinals and play their first game of the tournament at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Buckeyes, who were ranked as the last team in the top 16 in the rankings released by the NCAA selection committee on Sunday morning – two spots behind No. 14 Michigan State – finish the regular season with a 24-6 overall record, a 13-5 record in Big Ten play and a 5-6 mark vs. ranked opponents.
