No Ohio State basketball player has ever had more steals in a game than Jacy Sheldon did on Sunday.

With 11 steals in Ohio State’s 82-64 win at Boston College, Sheldon tied the school record for most steals in a game previously set by Lisa Cline against UCLA in 1988. Those are not only the most steals in a game by an Ohio State women’s basketball player but by an Ohio State basketball player of either gender, as the men’s basketball record for single-game steals is eight by Troy Taylor against St. Joseph’s in 1983.

The spectacular individual performance by Sheldon was part of a second straight dominant effort by Ohio State’s defense to begin the 2022-23 season. After forcing Tennessee into 29 turnovers in their 87-75 season-opening win over the fifth-ranked Volunteers, the Buckeyes forced 35 Boston College turnovers on Sunday as their full-court press proved to be a nightmare for their opponent once again.

Rebeka Mikulasikova led the Buckeyes offensively with a career-high 23 points as well as a team-high 10 rebounds. Sheldon also had a double-double as she added 14 points to her 11 steals. Taylor Mikesell (16) and Taylor Thierry (10) joined them in double figures while Madison Greene had eight points and a career-high nine assists.

The Buckeyes are now 2-0 through their opening week of the season and should climb in the rankings this week after starting the year 14th in the AP Top 25. Their season continues Thursday in Athens, Ohio, where they’ll play Ohio in their third game of the year.
