Ohio State is the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA women’s hockey tournament for the third straight year.

Despite suffering a 6-3 loss to Wisconsin in the WCHA Final Faceoff championship game on Saturday, Ohio State was selected as the No. 1 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament when the bracket was unveiled Sunday afternoon.

“It’s such an honor to be No. 1, especially when you see the field of talent that is throughout the entire nation,” Ohio State coach Nadine Muzerall said on ESPN’s selection show.

Wisconsin, who also beat Ohio State in last year’s national championship game, is the No. 2 seed in the bracket.

Ohio State earns the No. 1 seed on the strength of a 32-4 season in which the Buckeyes won the WCHA regular-season conference championship. The Buckeyes are looking to win their second national championship in program history after previously winning the national title as the No. 1 overall seed in 2022.

The Buckeyes will begin NCAA Tournament play on Saturday, when they will host the winner of Thursday’s first-round game between Minnesota Duluth and UConn. Saturday’s quarterfinal game is set for a 4 p.m. puck drop at the OSU Ice Rink.
