Ohio State adds a veteran wide receiver from the transfer portal in former UTSA pass catcher Devin McCuin.
The clues were always there. If you wanted to see them, at least.
I created a bit of a stir following Ohio State's early-November win in West Lafayette, as the visitors surrendered many failures along their offensive line. Many blamed the play of right guard Tegra Tshabola. However, I claimed that week on the Dubcast that the Buckeyes' inability to both run the ball effectively and protect their young quarterback would ultimately be the team's downfall come the postseason, as the issues went far deeper than one spot on the O-line.
Unfortunately, I was proven right.
Despite a three-week layoff during which every member of the program claimed a fire had been lit and a wake-up call sent after the loss to Indiana, the same issues were immediately apparent in the Cotton Bowl. Miami's defensive front, not just the star ends, set up camp in the Buckeye backfield on New Year's Eve, sending the defending champs home early.
Here's what we go over in this season's final video breakdown:
- Caleb Downs left everything on the field in his (likely) final game in an OSU uniform
- Ohio State's reliance on man coverage ultimately worked against them on the final drive
- Pass protection issues were apparent across the offensive line
- Despite some improvement after halftime, errors in offensive execution continued throughout the game
