This year, I'm thankful for Matt Patricia.
As I've said many times this season, the Buckeye defense has brought me more joy to break down than its compatriots on the other side of the ball, something I've rarely said in 11 seasons doing Film Study pieces, and its play caller is a big reason why. While the Silver Bullets haven't really shown much in the form of complex schematics throughout the back half of the season, Rutgers' relatively effective passing game gave Patricia a reason to dial things back up a notch.
Or, perhaps, he was preparing for his biggest test of the season.
The Buckeyes head north to Ann Arbor on Saturday in a game everyone has been anxiously waiting 365 days to play, and should they emerge victorious, the defense will likely be a big reason why. However, the OSU offensive line must also bring its A-game, which was on display as well last weekend.
Here's what we go over in this week's video breakdown:
- Executional excellence from the OSU running game
- Michigan's defensive front will provide the biggest test (again)
- Disguised coverages will challenge Bryce Underwood
- Matt Patricia dialed up pressures that attacked Rutgers' protection schemes
