Ohio State beats Purdue 34-10 and improves to 9-0 on the season.
Ohio State didn't list Carnell Tate on its Status Report against Purdue. However, the star receiver will not play against the Boilermakers.
Big Ten Network's Brooke Fletcher reported on the broadcast for Ohio State vs. Purdue that Tate was “a little tight during warmups" but could still enter the game for the Buckeyes. Not long after, an Ohio State spokesperson told reporters that the Buckeyes plan to hold Tate out of the entire game for precautionary reasons. Day confirmed that to Fletcher at halftime.
"He's not gonna play. We're gonna hold him," he said. "It was kind of a thing before the game — we just didn't feel comfortable putting him out there, so you won't see him in the second half."
With Tate on the sidelines, Jeremiah Smith led Ohio State's pass-catchers with seven receptions for 109 yards and one touchdown in the first half. Max Klare, Brandon Inniss, James Peoples, Bryson Rodgers and Nate Roberts combined for the rest of Julian Sayin's 15 completions and 182 yards.
This season, Tate has 39 catches for 711 yards and seven touchdowns. His next opportunity to make an impact for the Buckeyes will come on Nov. 15, when Ohio State hosts UCLA at 7:30 p.m. inside the Horseshoe.
