Since transferring in from Rice this offseason, Ethan Onianwa seemed destined to be Ohio State's starting left tackle in 2025. But on Tuesday, Ryan Day sounded less certain.

The Buckeyes' head coach said that Austin Siereveld has been working at arguably the offensive line's most important position during the last two practices of preseason camp while Onianwa gets more action at right tackle and guard. While Siereveld's stock has soared as much as any Ohio State player this offseason, Ohio State would have a first-time tackle protecting a new quarterback's blindside if he were to beat Onianwa out at that position.

It also calls into question where Onianwa is in his development after transferring from a Group of Five program. Ohio State's defensive ends were frequent winners in practices open to the media last week, but with practice closed off the rest of camp, it will be hard to tell exactly where he's at in his progression.

Buckeye quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler and his players, namely Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz, also met with the media on Tuesday. None of them gave much away about the battle, however – even about who is the better golfer between them.

Ohio State's defensive line got some positive news on Tuesday, though, as Day said Eddrick Houston should be back on the practice field “within the next 48 hours” despite suffering a knee injury last Thursday.
