Those who attended Ohio State’s coaches clinic on Thursday night had the opportunity to hear four of the Buckeyes’ recent linebacker greats talk about their football careers.

Former OSU linebackers Bobby Carpenter, Anthony Schlegel, James Laurinaitis and A.J. Hawk participated in a roundtable discussion with legendary Buckeye wide receiver Joey Galloway on the first night of OSU’s coaches clinic at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The four linebackers and Galloway talked about their favorite defensive plays from their careers, the best players they went up against, where they would have gone to school if not Ohio State and the advice they would give to a young coach.

Laurinaitis and Hawk both named Marshawn Lynch as one of the toughest players they went up against during their football careers, with Hawk also naming Adrian Peterson. Schlegel talked about the difficulty of playing Peyton Manning. Carpenter talked about playing against Aaron Rodgers and Ricky Williams and remembered being wowed by Vince Young while Galloway said Barry Sanders and Michael Vick were two of the most spectacular players he ever saw play live.

Carpenter and Laurinaitis both talked about the importance of players knowing that their coaches care about them, Schlegel said it is important for coaches to be their authentic selves and Galloway said every coach should talk to their players about more than just football.

You can watch the full roundtable conversation in the video at the top of the page.
