TreVeyon Henderson's reputation coming to Ohio State is as strong as they come as a Buckeye signee.

And now, he's “officially” in the program.

Henderson became the third freshman early enrollee and second offensive player to lose his black stripe today, joining five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer and four-star receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Henderson's signing was a landmark moment in the Buckeyes' 2021 recruiting class that ranks as the second-best in program history with a 94.52 average player rating. A five-star signee out of Hopewell (Virginia) High School,  Henderson is the third-highest-ranked running back signee in Ohio State history behind Beanie Wells and Sam Maldonado, and he ranks just above Maurice Clarrett as well.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder, who impresses with sub-4.6 speed in the 40, is expected to push incumbent starter Master Teague for playing time and perhaps the spot as the Buckeyes' starting running back.

Clearly, Henderson has impressed Ohio State's staff through spring practice despite not having played competitive football for a year and a half. His 2020 high school football season was pushed to the spring, and Henderson elected to enroll early in Columbus. But when he first spoke with the media as a Buckeye in March, he was confident that he would shake off the rest fairly quickly.

"I don't think (losing my senior season) set me back or anything," Henderson said. "All I need is that one good hit to wake me up, and I'll be good."
