Urban Meyer taped his weekly call-in show on 97.1 The Fan earlier this week for a special Friday release ahead of his sixth game against Michigan.

Notes from a shortened appearance:

COFEE WITH THE COACH QUESTION from JUDY in BOWLING GREEN: Does one win in the 10-Year War stand out?

  • Bo Schembechler's win over Ohio State's Super Sophomores in his first year as Michigan coach (1969).
  • Earle Bruce used to complain to the Big Ten that Schembechler used to come out to "almost midfield" to yell at refs. Claimed Schembechler got preferential treatment.
  • Schembechler reached out to Meyer when he took his first job at Bowling Green. "He was an Earle Bruce guy. And he knew I had respect for This Rivalry." Meyer called him for advice a couple of times, and Schembechler was "always gracious with his time."

On year-long preparation for Michigan: "When I got here in 1986, it was just constant, constant [training for Michigan]. Said Jim Tressel, an Earle Bruce guy, brought that back to Columbus when he came. "It's a rivalry that never ends... when you walk through our facilities, it's everywhere."

On what stands out about Michigan: "The defense is really good. Its defensive line is among the best in the country. Don Browns runs 40% 4-3, 30% 3-4, and 30% 3-3 stack.

Mike Weber is "100% healthy," which has shown in long-touchdown runs in the past two weeks. "He has a great combination of power and speed."

Meyer "couldn't be more proud" of Demetrius Knox. He used to be a guy "that really didn't do anything here." Jamarco Jones and Billy Price leaned on him, and Knox has bought into the culture. "That's something we missed last year."

Parris Campbell said this week that against Illinois was the first time all year he's felt like "the old Parris Campbell."

Kickoff coverage is "back to being dynamic." Their goal is to tackle the opponent inside the 20-yard-line, and "the statistics say we're doing that as well as anytime since I've been here."
