The question was direct.

“You play for one of the absolute rock stars in college football in Urban Meyer,” BTN studio host Dave Revsine asked the Ohio State players in Chicago for Big Ten Football Media Days. “You guys know his track record at Ohio State. Six losses in five years. It's remarkable. You guys are up close and personal with it every day. What makes Urban Meyer so good?”

Defensive end Tyquan Lewis fielded the question first.

“Coach Meyer, he's a tremendous coach. He recruits hard. He does everything to, like, the best of his ability. He goes hard at everything. He gets the best players in good situations. He challenges us to be the best that we can. I mean, he's just great all-around coach.”

“He became a rock star not because he wanted to, but because he did things the right way and won games doing it.”

“He challenges us, the team, and he gets the best out of us,” linebacker Chris Worley followed. “That's what you want in a coach, in a leader. And back to the question, you know, he became a rock star not because he wanted to, but because he did things the right way and won games doing it. I think that's what should be said more than anything, that he did things the right way.”

Meyer, who owns three national championships, two winning streaks of 20 games or more, and an insane 165–29 record in his 15 seasons as a head coach, made noise when he arrived at Ohio State about doing things the right way – something he was frustrated by near the end of his tenure in the SEC while he was at Florida.

Guard Billy Price spoke about Meyer's drive.

“He's a blue-collar kind of guy up from northeast Ohio,” Price started. “The way that he challenges us continuously, not being okay with complacency, that's probably one of the more influential aspects of him being a coach. I have a lot of respect for the man and I'm glad he's on our side.”

Ohio State kicks off fall camp Thursday with an early morning practice.
