With the sheer amount of youth an inexperience on Urban Meyer's roster heading into the 2016 schedule it's easy to miss the fact there are a slew of individual career records currently on notice.

As you'd guess, J.T. Barrett is the player leading the pack with a host of career school marks in his crosshairs but he's not alone with teammates like Sean Nuernberger, Cameron Johnston and Dontre Wilson also poised to etch their names in Buckeye lore.

So which existing records are in the most precarious positions? Let's take a look by player.

J.T. BARRETT

Entering his third year of play, Barrett already owns a handful of all-time school records including Career Completion Percentage and Career Average Total Offense Yards/Game – but more on those in a second. Here's a handful of school marks well within striking distance for Barrett this season:

CAREER PASSING YARDS PER GAME

The great Joe Germaine currently holds the school record with a career 172.2 passing yards per game mark with 6,370 yards in 37 games.

Barrett enters the season boasting an average of 166.3 passing yards per game with 3,826 yards in 23 games.

It's actually pretty interesting the duo sits No. 1 and No. 2 in this metric all-time despite being forced to function in a two-quarterback system for at least one season. In Joe's case the decision was criminal whereas Barrett's time-share was at least arguable from either side.

With a full season of Meyer riding Barrett's talents, breaking Germaine's mark feels like a given.

CAREER 200-YARD PASSING GAMES

Bobby Hoying leads the way with 16 such games in his career while Barrett sits seventh with 11 outings of 200+ passing yards.

Barrett is primed to own more school records than any other OSU quarterback in history.
CAREER 300-YARD PASSING GAMES

Germaine, the greatest pure passer in school history, also leads in this category with eight 300-yard passing games. Barrett already ranks second but it's a fairly distant second with four such outings. Eclipsing the 300-yard mark five times to set a new Buckeye standard seems like a pretty tall order but certainly not impossible.

CAREER 200-YARD TOTAL OFFENSE GAMES

Braxton Miller is your leader in the clubhouse with 22 games with at least 200 total yards of offense. Barrett is currently in sixth place with 15 such efforts. Reaching that barrier at least eight times this season seems like a lock especially when you consider Barrett has 11 career games with at least 300 yards of total offense which is already a school record.

CAREER COMPLETIONS

Barrett is way back in 10th place for career completions with 296 but sits a viable 203 completions short of passing Bobby Hoying's school record 498 set back in 1995.

How viable is 203? Barrett completed exactly that many passes in only 12 games in 2014. If you're interested, Germaine holds the single-season school record for completions with 230 back in 1998.

CAREER PASSING YARDS

With 3,826 career passing yards to date, Barrett holds down the 11th spot on the school's all-time list. It's important to note 2,834 of those came during 12 games in 2014.

To set the school record Barrett would need to average 248 passing yards per game assuming a 15-game season so breaking the record here probably isn't realistic but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway. Finishing third all-time is more realistic as Barrett would need 2,545 yards to pass Germaine's tally of 6,370 yards.

CAREER TOUCHDOWN PASSES

With an astounding 34 touchdown passes in 2014 followed up by 11 last year, Barrett currently slots sixth with 45 career touchdown tosses.

Hoying holds the school record with 57 meaning Barrett needs only 13 tosses for six to set a new standard in Buckeye history. The real question here is if that record falls in September or October.

CAREER TOUCHDOWNS RESPONSIBLE FOR

Miller currently owns the Buckeye record with 88 career touchdowns responsible for with Barrett already fourth all-time with 67. Like the career touchdown passes mark, it's probably a question of when, not if, Barrett reaches 22 this year to become the all-time leader.

CAREER COMPLETION PERCENTAGE, CAREER AVERAGE TOTAL OFFENSE PER GAME

Barrett is already your all-time Buckeye leader with a 64.2% completion percentage with Todd Boeckman holding down second place at 63.4%. After completing 64.6% of his tosses in 2014, Barrett slid back to 63.3% last season so he'll need to more closely resemble 2014 J.T. than the 2015 edition to hang on to this record.

Barrett is also already the school's all-time leader in average yards of total offense per game with a ridiculous mark of 263.8 yards per game. I'd say this record is safe considering Terrelle Pryor is second on the list with 185.2.

SEAN NUERNBERGER

A name you probably didn't expect to see as a career record holder, Nuernberger has already carved his name into OSU annals once and has a shot at another mark this year.

CONSECUTIVE EXTRA POINTS MADE

Nuernberger is already Ohio State's all-time leader in consecutive extra points made with an active mark of 106. Though his field goal accuracy is spotty, he has yet to miss an extra point wearing a Buckeye uniform.

CAREER EXTRA POINTS MADE

Rich Spangler owns the Buckeye record with 177 career extra points made after a career spanning from 1983-86. Nuernberger finds himself in ninth place all-time with those 106 extra points. Considering he tallied 89 extra points in 2014 as the full-time guy, it's just a matter of time before Nuernberger seizes the top spot.

In case you're wondering, Nuernberger also holds Ohio State's single-season record with 128 points (89 XP, 13 FG) in 2014.

Sweep the leg.

CAMERON JOHNSTON

A much more celebrated special teamer, Johnston has been nothing short of magnificent during his time in Columbus and while he already holds one major all-time school record, he's also a threat to capture another by season's end.

CAREER PUNTING AVERAGE

A hell of a kicker in his own right, Andy Groom (2001-02) owns the career mark with a 45.0 yards per punt average. Hot on his heels in third place however is Johnston with a career average sitting at 44.3 on the strength of 155 punts for 6,869 yards.

CAREER PUNTS INSIDE THE 20

No surprise here, Johnston is already Ohio State's career leader in punts downed inside the 20 yard line with a ridiculous 83.

With one year of eligibility remaining, Johnston is five such punts ahead of second place A.J. Trapasso and dwarfs Ben Buchanan's third place tally of 58 punts inside the 20.

DONTRE WILSON

Wilson's hoping for many happy returns.

Despite nagging injuries limiting his production over the years, Wilson has a reasonable shot to become the school's career leader in kickoff return yards and kickoff returns.

CAREER KICKOFF RETURN YARDS

Currently fifth all-time with 1,218 return yards on the strength of 24.36 yards per return, Wilson needs 425 yards to break Maurice Hall's school record 1,642 kickoff return yards.

For perspective, in 2013 and 2014 when Wilson served as a primary kick returner he amassed 523 and 528 yards respectively meaning he's got a shot at the record provided teams don't follow last year's strategy in which they allowed just 17 total kickoff returns.

CAREER KICKOFF RETURNS

Wilson sits fourth in school history with 50 kickoff returns putting him 23 shy of breaking Hall's career mark of 72.

Similar to the return yards scenario, Wilson will be right on track to set the mark if things fall as they did in 2013 and 2014 when he racked up 21 and 22 kickoff returns but if opponents again put the kabosh on return tries, he'll undoubtedly come up short.
