There isn’t a running back higher on Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting board than five-star standout David Gabriel Georges.
The Canada native, who plays for the Baylor School in Tennessee, has confirmed he’ll be at OSU’s season opener against the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 30, instantly making him one of the top visitor priorities for the Buckeyes.
Per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Gabriel Georges is considered the No. 34 prospect and the No. 3 running back in the 2027 recruiting class. The 6-foot, 205-pound prospect last visited OSU in June for a recruiting camp, where he had the opportunity to work out with Carlos Locklyn and said he made improvements to his ball security, cuts and pass blocking.
“I think Coach Locklyn is a great coach for that,” Gabriel Georges said following the camp. “He's really showing me on the field and showing me some new drills and some type of things that I have to correct about myself and how I play football.”
There’s a long way to go in Gabriel Georges’ recruitment, but based on the Buckeyes’ evaluation of him, it’s a safe bet to believe they’ll be there until the end with him. The trip to Columbus for the Texas game will be his third visit to OSU.
One of the biggest factors in Gabriel Goerges’ eventual decision will be his relationship with the team’s coaching staff.
“The coach,” Gabriel Georges said of the top priorities in his recruitment. “How they play their running backs. Like, some schools play more pass and to run block, but that's the type of thing I look at. I would say school first, because my mom and my dad really want me to go to a great school and want me to get a great degree.”
Rolling Signing Day idea being floated
With the new revenue sharing era underway, colleges can officially offer recruits monetary deals beginning Aug. 1 of their senior year. Yet, they can’t sign them until December. That’s caused some angst throughout the recruiting industry, and it’s prompted some colleges to float a “Rolling Signing Day” suggestion, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Thamel cautioned that this idea is in its infancy stages, but the new suggestion would allow both parties to sign a binding agreement when an offer is officially accepted by a recruit, eliminating the uncertainty for both parties in the months-long slog until National Signing Day.
“The days of five hats on a table and four schools being surprised are over,” a source told Thamel. “You can’t. No school can wait on a kid they have to have until Signing Day because they need cap certainty.”
Although it’s a new idea, I can’t envision many Power Four schools would be against this concept.
Kaleb Elkins visiting OSU Aug. 30
Another intriguing recruiting visitor who confirmed his plans to visit Ohio State for the Texas game this week was four-star Indiana safety Kaleb Elkins, who was offered by OSU in May and visited Columbus in June.
Elkins is considered the No. 225 prospect and No. 23 safety in the 2027 class and boasts nearly 20 Division I offers.
Last season, Elkins recorded 32 tackles, one tackle for loss, seven pass breakups, six interceptions and one pick-six.
