Ohio State is bringing in another accurate passer from Southern California.
That’s a strategy that worked out tremendously well when the Buckeyes signed C.J. Stroud in the 2020 recruiting class. It’s one they hope will lead to more success this year with Julian Sayin likely in line to be Ohio State’s new starting quarterback. And it’s a well they’ve now dipped into once again to fill their need for a 2026 quarterback with Luke Fahey’s commitment to Ohio State on Thursday.
Fahey isn’t the most highly touted quarterback in his class, ranking as the No. 24 quarterback in 2026 per 247Sports’ composite rankings, but neither was Stroud until he shot up the rankings as a senior – and Fahey has the potential to do the same as he becomes the full-time starter at Mission Viejo High School for the first time. Fahey isn’t the biggest quarterback either, measuring in at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, but neither is Sayin, who’s the same height and was just 180 pounds (though he’s now 203) when he arrived at Ohio State.
What Ohio State is getting in Fahey is an accurate passer with a track record of making smart decisions – he completed 76% of his passing attempts last season with 17 touchdowns and zero interception – which makes him a good fit for what Ryan Day wants at the quarterback position, and a viable candidate to compete with Tavien St. Clair and another Southern Californian, 2027 commit Brady Edmunds, to be Ohio State’s next starting quarterback in a couple of years.
On a post-commitment episode of Press Coverage, we break down why Fahey emerged as Ohio State’s quarterback for the 2026 class and how he fits into the Buckeyes’ future at the position. Plus, we look ahead to what could be an eventful July 4th for Ohio State recruiting with five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo set to announce his commitment and defensive tackle target Jamir Perez also teasing a “big announcement.”
