A few days ahead of their official visits to Ohio State, 2026 Glenville standouts Cincere Johnson and Jamir Perez competed at the Buckeyes’ second recruiting camp of the summer on Monday.

Johnson, a linebacker considered a top-75 prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, received hands-on instruction from both defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and linebackers coach James Laurinaitis before the camp even officially began. Both Patricia and Laurinaitis will ensure they put on a full-court press for Johnson this weekend on his official visit, with his commitment date looming large on June 19.

Perez committed to Florida last month following his official visit, but the Buckeyes are still confident they can keep the defensive tackle in-state. Those efforts started on Monday with defensive line coach Larry Johnson instructing Perez in individual drills and will continue this weekend on his official visit.

Ohio State’s two commits in the 2027 class got to work with each other on Monday as five-star wideout Jamier Brown and quarterback Brady Edmunds connected several times throughout the day on different routes. Brown continues to look like arguably the most explosive player in the entire country in the 2027 cycle and boasts deadly speed and uncanny route-running ability. He may only reside an hour away in Dayton so he’ll likely be present at OSU plenty of times over the next two years, but that doesn’t make watching him perform any less fun every time.

Tight ends coach Keenan Bailey and Ryan Day actually offered five-star 2027 Louisiana tight end Ahmad Hudson on Sunday, one day before he camped in Columbus. But it was easy to see why they went ahead and pulled the trigger.

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Hudson is considered the No. 12 player in the country and the nation’s top tight end in 2027 per 247Sports’ composite rankings and he lived up to that billing and then some on Monday. Hudson is more polished as a receiver than he is as a blocker right now and that was pretty evident in the workouts, with Ohio State tight end Will Kacmarek offering a couple of tips to the Ruston, Louisiana standout throughout the day. In one-on-ones, though, Hudson went up against linebackers and frankly, none of them had a prayer in covering him. It’ll be interesting to see where he and Ohio State’s relationship goes from here.

Seven new offers go out

OSU’s first camp of the summer on Thursday had four players receive an offer from the Buckeyes. The second camp surpassed that total, with seven new recruits walking away from Columbus with offers in hand.

Players who left OSU with an offer on Monday are as follows:

  • Four-star New Jersey 2027 tight end Colt Lumpris. Lumpris is considered the No. 294 player in the country per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
  • Four-star Oklahoma 2027 safety Semaj Stanford. The first of two safeties from Oklahoma to earn offers Monday, Stanford is the No. 199 prospect and the 20th-ranked safety in the 2027 class.
  • Four-star Oklahoma 2027 safety Bryson Brown. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Brown is ranked the No. 307 prospect and the 28th-best safety in his cycle.
  • Three-star California 2027 wide receiver Blake Wong. Wong camped at OSU for the second straight summer and this time earned an offer from the Buckeyes. He looked impressive on Monday and built a rapport with Edmunds, who was back for his second straight camp.
  • Pennsylvania 2027 running back Kelvin Morrison. Morrison went through a private workout with Carlos Locklyn following the conclusion of the camp and was offered shortly afterward.
  • New Jersey 2027 tight end JT Geraci. Geraci doesn’t hold a composite ranking as of yet, but the 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end holds 10 Division I offers and looked the part of a future impact player on Monday.
  • North Carolina 2028 linebacker Skylar Alston. Alston is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker with 15 Division I offers.

Other notes

  • It was really fun watching California four-star 2027 cornerback Danny Lang and Brown go at it during one-on-ones. They matched up together on nearly all of their reps at the camp. On a rainy, slippery day, Brown won some and Lang won some (though if there were actually referees officiating these things, Lang would have been penalized a few times for being a little too grabby). Even more fun than watching Brown and Lang go at it was watching Ohio State players reacting to it, with Brandon Inniss, Bryson Rodgers and Carnell Tate firmly in Brown’s camp and Jermaine Mathews Jr. and Devin Sanchez rooting on Lang. Those guys sure know how to engage in friendly trash talk with each other.
  • Lang’s high school teammate and top-55 prospect Aaryn Washington made the trip to Ohio State on Monday but didn’t participate in the camp due to an injury. The cornerback already had an offer from OSU, though, and wanted to check out campus.
  • Top-100 prospect and Texas linebacker commit Taven Epps camped at Ohio State on Monday. Epps committed to the Longhorns in April and already held an offer from the Buckeyes, but the door doesn’t seem to be closed for OSU on the 2027 standout.
  • Four-star 2027 Michigan State safety commit Khalil Terry worked out with the Buckeyes and looked solid in both one-on-one competition drills and in individual workouts. Terry visited OSU in the spring and returned for a workout Monday, so I wouldn’t rule out the Buckeyes in this recruitment going forward.
  • We mentioned the two biggest names at Glenville earlier with Johnson and Perez and the Buckeyes certainly hope they can keep the pipeline alive this summer by landing those two. Ted Ginn Sr. brought a large chunk of Glenville prospects besides those two to work out at OSU on Monday, but one to watch going forward is 2028 wideout Emiere Lemons. That guy is a playmaker.
