Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye made use of his Friday during the off week, hitting the ground running recruiting in the state of Ohio.

He stopped at Wayne to see OSU commit Joshua Padilla before attending fellow commit Luke Montgomery’s senior night at Findlay. But he also checked in on 2024 offensive lineman Jake Wheelock at Stebbins High School earlier that afternoon.

“He came in briefly just to check in on me,” Wheelock told Eleven Warriors. “We talked about the status of the team and the game plan for the week. It was brief, but it was another great experience for me. Any chance to talk to him I love. He wanted to reinforce that I am still a top recruit on his board.”

Wheelock visited Ohio State earlier this fall for the Buckeyes’ game against Toledo. While the only two Division I offers he’s picked up thus far are Akron and Toledo, OSU remains interested in the 6-foot-4, 275-pound lineman. He plays left tackle currently for Stebbins, though the Buckeyes envision him as more of a guard or center at the next level. Ohio State is still the offer Wheelock hopes for the most in his recruitment.

“I really love (Ohio State),” Wheelock said in September. “I’ve told people time and time again that is the offer to me and I’ll pull the trigger pretty quickly if I can get that offer. It’ll probably be pretty quick once I get it.”

Denmark sets commitment for Nov. 24

A wide receiver with an Ohio State offer with the 2024 class has set a decision date. Four-star Pennsylvania prospect Tyseer Denmark has set a commitment date for Nov. 24, his mother’s birthday.

The Philadelphia product hasn’t released an updated top schools list since putting out a top 12 in July but told 247Sports that Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, USC and Tennessee have his attention the most. From those schools, he is “leaning in one direction.” The 5-foot-11, 180-pound wideout will visit Penn State this weekend and hopes to take a trip to Tennessee the following week.

Denmark visited Ohio State for the Buckeyes’ spring game in April, then returned to Columbus in June for a seven-on-seven tournament.

“Columbus, it feels like home,” Denmark told Eleven Warriors after the seven-on-seven tournament. “It feels like a good place for me. I always feel love with coach Brian Hartline and coach Ryan Day. So it feels great to be back on campus.”

Earlier in the summer, Denmark was adamant about taking a gameday visit to Ohio State for the Michigan game. But considering that game is two days after his college commitment, it’s likely only happening should Denmark pick the Buckeyes.

“I have to come back for the team up north game,” Denmark said in June. “I want my brothers to see that experience. That’s the game I really want to be at. I want to be at a couple of games, but that’s the one I really want.”

Hobbs announces commitment date of Nov. 25

Four-star 2023 North Carolina defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs will announce his commitment one day after Denmark on Nov. 25. Coincidentally, his decision date is also set with the intent of honoring his mother’s birthday. Unlike Denmark, though, Hobbs announced a list of six finalists: Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Ohio State offered the 6-foot-4, 262-pound prospect in late September, then made his first visit to Columbus a few days later on Oct. 1 for the Rutgers game. Hobbs has also visited Michigan and Tennessee this fall and will take an official visit to Alabama on Saturday and Georgia on Nov. 5.

When the calendar flips to Nov. 25, Ohio State isn’t likely to be the hat Hobbs picks unless something dramatically changes. Hobbs will likely stay in the south and choose between Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.
