Mike Conley was rumored to be on his way out of Memphis via a trade before the deadline, but that deadline has passed and Conley is still a Grizzly.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that Conley would remain in Memphis, reporting that the Grizzlies "discussed deals with multiple teams, but ultimately decided to hold onto their franchise point guard."
A factor in Conley remaining with the team is the value he has as a veteran leader, ESPN's Tim MacMahon reports.
One factor in the Grizzlies not trading Mike Conley: They value him as a mentor for Jaren Jackson Jr., a 19-year-old being groomed as the future face of the franchise. Conley was not eager to leave Memphis.— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) February 7, 2019
The Grizzlies didn't sit out the trade deadline completely, though. Memphis traded Marc Gasol to the Raptors in exchange for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Miles and a 2024 second-round pick. The also traded Shelvin Mack to the Hawks in exchange for Tyler Dorsey.
