FiveThirtyEight Model Gives Ohio State Less Than 1% Chance to Win NCAA Tournament

Nate Silver's polling aggregation website FiveThirtyEight has given Ohio State less than one percent chance of putting together the six-game winning streak necessary to capture college basketball's crown. I guess the good news is that it also gives the Buckeyes a 64% chance to get past VCU on Thursday.

FiveThirtyEight's forecasting model calculates the chance of each team reaching each round, taking into account a composite of power rankings, pre-season rankings, the team’s placement on the NCAA’s 68-team S-curve, player injuries and geography. Just mouse over each team to see its chances of advancing through each round.

Should Ohio State advance past VCU, the chances of getting past Arizona (probably) drops to 13%. FiveThirtyEight says a trip to the Elite Eight is then only 7% likely, followed by a 3% chance of making it to the Final Four and less than one percent likelihood of getting to the final game.

Long odds are nothing new. Tim told you about Bovada giving the Buckeyes 100-1 odds, earlier today.

A slim chance is still a chance, right?
