The Cleveland Cavaliers have been active in the trading business as they shipped DeAndre Hunter to Sacramento for veteran Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis. Then Cleveland made even a bigger splash by adding high scoring James Harden from the Clippers in exchange for Darius Garland and a 2nd round pick.
The Cavs' betting odds to win the NBA title soared after the trades. Obviously, getting a proven scorer like Harden will be an asset offensively, but he is one of the poorer defenders in the NBA. Schroder is a good all around player who can play multiple roles, while Ellis has a high ceiling, especially being able to knock down the trifecta.
With Jarrett Allen coming off a career high 40 points, and with Evan Mobley still on the mend from injury, the team will have to develop a new chemistry with these recent acquisitions. There's still 31 games remaining in the regular season so there's time to mesh this roster together.
Did these trades make the Cavaliers a better team? Time will tell.
