It's no secret Ohio State's men's basketball team could use a go-to scorer — something it lacked greatly last season.

This year, that guy could be freshman D'Angelo Russell.

"I think with D'Angelo, all I can say right now is that I'm very pleased with how he's playing in practice," Ohio State head coach Thad Matta said Thursday at Big Ten Basketball Media Day. "The strides that he's making, he's doing a great job of really taking the court over every time he steps on the court."

Russell came out of high school with a big-time reputation as a scoring guard. A five-star prospect, Russell was a McDonald's All-American last year.

"He's gonna have some ups and downs, but I like his demeanor, I think the things that he can do on the court and we're gonna keep coaching him and keep him as healthy as we can," Matta said.
