Ohio State's legendary artistic swimming program, led by the venerable Holly Vargo-Brown, captured a third place finish at the U.S. Collegiate Championship yesterday at Stanford's Avery Aquatic Center.
For a program with 34 national titles, including 26 with Vargo-Brown participating as a student-athlete, assistant coach or head coach, finishing third could be viewed as a bit of a letdown by some but the result was certainly nothing to scoff at given the stiff competition.
The Stanford Cardinal pulled off back-to-back national titles for the first time since a four-peat from 2005-08 and of course this latest title came in their own backyard.
Ohio State will be bringing home a respectable haul of hardware in addition to the team's third place finish as Ruby Remati won the A Figures title for the third time during her illustrious career.

The Buckeyes also racked up three other top-three finishes in events. Elizabeth Fullen finished second in B Figures while Remati placed second and Scarlett Finn third in Solo.

Overall, it was a very successful weekend for the Buckeyes even if they didn't capture the ultimate prize. That said, it's a safe bet Vargo-Brown and company are already focused on getting back to the top of the mountain even as they celebrate another strong campaign.
