Ohio State fans who are also Cincinnati Bengals fans will see a familiar face when the Bengals play the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel announced Wednesday that Quinn Ewers, who spent one year at Ohio State before transferring to Texas, will replace Tua Tagovailoa as the Dolphins’ starting quarterback for their Week 16 game against the Bengals.

The Dolphins selected Ewers in the seventh round (No. 231 overall pick) of this year’s NFL draft. Initially signing with Ohio State in 2021 as the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit, Ewers transferred to Texas in 2022 and was the Longhorns’ starter for three seasons. His college career famously ended against the Buckeyes, with his former roommate Jack Sawyer strip-sacking Ewers and returning the fumble 85 yards for a game-sealing touchdown in last season’s CFP semifinal at the Cotton Bowl.

Ewers will make his first NFL start on Sunday, becoming the sixth rookie quarterback to start a game this year. He’s appeared in one game for the Dolphins this season, completing five of eight passes for 53 yards in a loss to the Cleveland Browns.
