The FIFA World Cup 2026 is in the USA/Mex/Can , and the 12 4-team pods were announced.   For those not familiar, the way the world cup works is that there are 12 4-team pods, and within each pod, each team plays the other team in the pod (so 3 games), and the top 2 teams from each pod advance to the next stage (the "knockout" stage) where the tournament becomes single elimination.  Now with the expanded world cup a few 3rd place teams advance to the knockout stage as well, but I'm not entirely sure yet what the rules are for that.

Looking at the pods, the USA got a VERY favorable draw IMO, and will almost certainly make it out of the group stage into the knockout stage.  I haven't yet looked to see what the complete bracket looks like (as in, after you get out of the group stage who plays who etc), but this overall looks good for the USA, they avoided most of the really dangerous opponents and didn't get into a "group of death".
