I saw a few clips showing a new defense (I assume it's new) which is Man Alignment Zone Execution where the defense looks and acts like a man coverage defense all the way up to the snap - I saw the DB matching a man in motion on every clip. After the snap the defense drops directly into zone coverages.
I haven't really been watching the NFL for a while. Are the Vikings able to do this because their back 7 are so good or is this something that could be copied all the way down to college?
In the clips, I have no idea where the QB was supposed to go with the ball other than tuck & run or eat it because if the ball got thrown to what should have been open in a man coverage like they showed at the snap it was probably going to be a pick 6.
If they can do this in college teams are going to have to start being able to just pound the ball in the run game in order to win again. (in my opinion).
I'm curious about others thoughts on MAZE.
