Military strategists talk about Centers of Gravity all the time, generally defining it as the "one thing" that has to be captured/defeated/destroyed for a one opponent to be victorious over another.
I've flipped that on its head a bit and have been thinking about what is the one thing that has to happen for the Buckeyes to win out in 2026.
My take: Our center of gravity for a natty next year is Julian Sayin. Specifically, he needs to make that 2nd year jump in play that most expect from a 2nd year starter. Stronger, faster, seeing the field better, smarter, better situational awareness, chemistry with his prospective receivers, etc.
Obviously, I've got quite a few assumptions that lead to my take:
1. Coach Day's past performance makes it a reliable assumption that he'll have at minimum/floor of a 10-2 season and make the playoffs.
2. He is a elite playcaller, regardless of who he hires as OC, it's going to be execution of the game plan that will matter most.
3. Absolutely agree with most posters and assume that the OL will be better with most starters and depth back and upperclassmen.
4. With MP remaining as DC and the portal work that happened the Silver Bullets will be no worse than top 10 defense again
What say y'all, what is your Center of Gravity, the one thing that absolutely has to happen to win a natty?
